Peter heard the footsteps of someone coming towards the house, and stop, before he even looked up from the notebook he was writing in. That was the usual response people had seeing a guy sitting on the awning over a front door who wasn't doing roof work. A glance down was given, mostly to guage if it was someone just going door to door or the mail carrier. He had to double take and stopped what he was doing when he finally registered who was standing there instead, straightening a little, "Mary Jane...hey.."
After the very awkward talk they'd had earlier the previous week, he wasn't really sure where things were between them. If they were okay, if it was too much, if there was something else entirely. But needing space to sort through things seemed to be understood between them. Just to sort things out, get their bearings after everything that had happened and was said. Peter hadn't really seen or heard from her since then, and he didn't feel right trying to push an interaction sooner.
"...May isn't home right now if you're looking for her, she picked up an extra shift to cover at the hospital." he offered, trying not to be hopeful that it was him that she was coming over for. He'd lost enough people in his life alrady because of Spider-Man, in one way or another. For the past few days, he'd been worrying it was going to be the same with MJ. It hurt to think about, it even put him on edge. Even if things were different now, he wanted to at least be able to talk with her again, without that tense, uncomfortable feeling in the air. He never wanted that with her again, it just felt wrong.
