There was an unexplained banging from the metal van as it drove down the street. Sped down, really, like it was in a hurry to get somewhere. Horns wailed after it, a few cars swerved to miss it barreling through red lights, and a clue of exactly what the reason for all the commotion was came as the head of the passenger was suddenly being rammed through the side window. The van lurched from one side to the next like something heavy was being thrown around, before the whole thing suddenly and violently flipped onto its side and slid across the road. Scraping along the pavement and finally coming to a stop a few yards away. Two more banging sounds came from inside before the back doors flew open and Peter ducked down and under the one now set to hang from above with the vanâs new orientation. He rolled his shoulder with a grimace and looked up towards the skyline.
Feeling the watch on him, barely making out a figure that wasnât part of the building. He frowned and looked back at the street as another, significantly less armored van rolled to a stop a stretch away and a woman got out of the passenger side, hands up, âPeter, we just want to talk.â her tone was calm, it was probably supposed to be soothing and reassuring. Supposed to make him feel safe and like they cared. Like they had ever cared. It made his stomach twist instead, âClearly, youâre upset, I understand that, but if youâll just give us a chance to explain all of this, Iâm sure that-â
He turned around and pulled the door off of the van behind him in one go before twisting and throwing it into the hood of the van ahead of him. The woman had already moved aside and the driver had likewise scrambled out of the way as the whole vehicle was thrown back with the force of it before he walked back away from it giving the woman two thumbs up, âGreat talk!â he called back, and bolted into the first alley he spotted. People with their phones out and filming the chaos in the street and a few turning to try and catch sight of him as he raced past. Once he was far enough from the sidewalk, Peter jumped and stuck to the wall, climbing up as quick as he could and pulling himself over the edge before he kept going. As fast as he could, before they could regroup and try anything for a second time.
It was several rooftops, running and leaping and listening for tires screeching after him, before he finally dropped down into a small gap and caught himself on a ledge to pull himself onto. Slumping against the brick to catch his breath, âJust to talk, rightâŠâ he pulled his knees up to his chest to try and curl on himself, to make himself small and harder to spot before calling out again, âIâm out of car doors to throw if thatâs what youâre worried about.â

It felt dramatic to be sitting in the penthouse he absolutely had broken into with all the lights out. Not just out, but the bulbs of the lights actually removed and sitting on the kitchen counter. Neat and unbroken, set away from the edge so they didn't roll off like it was some kind of peace offering. After the amount of damages done to Oscorp property in the past month alone, it may as well have been. The three cameras that lay next to them though, that was making a point. No alarm had been triggered when heâd let himself in from the balcony, each one being tagged on the way up and dodged just right so that it didnât notice anything was wrong before he pulled them off. No sirens inside the building, no silent alarms tripped or heâd have felt the warning of trouble and cleared out. Instead, there Peter was, crouched on the back of the couch in a way that didnât have the whole thing tipping over with the hood of his jacket pulled up to help hide himself more, looking back at Harry Osborn of all people. Because the first place people would go when actively being hunted down by Oscorp was the home of an Osborn, obviously.
Then again, maybe Harry appreciated the dramatics. Just slightly. Probably not, his home had been broken into, but Peter could imagine.
He watched Harry a moment, âBut you might wanna look into getting better locks on your door. Just in case anyone else wants to try their luck getting in here.â which he doubted, maybe some nosy window cleaners or press who were pretending to be window cleaners, but probably not. Peter made no move to get down from where he was, arms braced on his knees and keeping himself at ease. There could be a panic button somewhere in the room still that could be tripped, it wasn't impossible, the longer he stayed there he doubted it and nodded towards Harry, "I know you're armed too, so how about this? You agree not to pull whatever it is on me while I'm here, and I don't try to take it from you and leave nice and peaceful with no broken walls when we're done talking. Sound like a deal to you?"

He dropped eight stories onto the hood of the taxi cab.
The windows shattered, and the car screeched to a stop so fast the only reason he wasnât thrown from it was the dent heâd left in the metal. Gasping around the feeling of the shocks that were still tearing through his body and he heard yelling and what was either cursing or praying to some figure or other that it wasnât someone who jumped. His fingers felt numb as his muscles spasmed before he was finally able to pull the thing that hit him off of his shoulder and throw it into the street. Breathing hard and collapsing against the roof that caught him before tires screeched to a stop next to him. After the last week of moving around to try and stay ahead, they finally managed to actually catch up and grab him. Literally. Peter felt hands pull on his arms as his legs finally got the feeling back into them and he traded the open view of skyscrapers and distant, clean air for the inside of a van with shackles as two sets of hands tried to force him inside. The man reaching for him already waiting was armed with a needle and the world finally snapped into focus.
Peter caught himself on the frame before he could be shoved inside and pulled his legs up, kicking the man with the needle hard enough in the chest to throw him into the other side and felt the whole thing rock with the force of it. No driver, but someone else seemed to be scrambling to prep a second needle in the back which was covered with screens like it was some old spy thriller movie and used for surveillance. He probably wasnât supposed to see that, and he was so far past the point of caring his only response was to reach back for the nearest man trying to still shove him inside and slam him face first into the van door. As soon as that grip on him was gone, Peter turned on the other man and grabbed him by the front of the shirt before throwing him over the mangled cab behind them and through a shop window decorated with smiling suns and a dolphin with sunglasses. The man whoâs head was reintroduced to the door was grabbed and thrown inside before Peter slammed the door shut on him hard enough to jam and stormed to the front of the car, glaring inside through the windshield and planting his foot on the hood, âI said to back off!â
The van was kicked, as hard as he could, and he watched the hood of it crumple in from the force before the whole thing shot back down the street with horns blaring behind it as cars tried to swerve out of the way. He stood there and tried to catch his breath before noticing the people lining the sidewalk either with the phones out recording or on them calling someone. So much for staying off the nightly news. Peter pulled the hood of his jacket down lower and stumbled to the sidewalk to try and push his way through the crowd and get out of sight as the cab driver yelled after him about paying for damages.
"They are colorful, noisy and rather pretty." Was his answer, when thinking about the sacrifices to his experiments that took place slightly too often in his lab. "Thus, they are fireworks."
Which was the least defensible statement he'd given in a long time, and he did not care one bit: this was the fun of being around Peter, and being as comfortable as he was.
Even when Peter seemed determined to tease him past composure, for all he'd have to try harder, as he side-eyed him for a moment, then hummed.
"Well, I had missed you." He said, in his most reasonable tone. Which meant the teasing had landed, but he'd need to up his game. And he could, Harry knew it for a certainty, and was baiting it anyway, because sometimes the defeat was the victory.
And then, as Peter moved closer, Harry moved an arm around him.
"There will be a party you can save me from." He promised, fondly. "I'll make sure of it."

A hum and nod in agreement were offered to Harry's defense and Peter fought hard to keep the grin down in favor of looking serious instead, "Makes perfect sense, you're absolutely right. I never should have questioned it." even if the end of the statement had been dangerously close to trailing off into a laugh. He guessed from a certain point of view some of the lab grade fireworks were pretty, sure. Why not? Crazier things had happened than that, and while he still wanted to laugh at the side-eyed glance his tease had earned him, the smile softened for the moment. The arm around him coaxing him to lean against Harry rather than just stand close enough the could brush against each other, "I missed you too." even if it hadn't been a long time, only a few days, and Peter made sure he kept his promise to be back as soon as he was, there was no denying he'd still missed being there. Being with Harry.
He reached down for the hand now on him, thumb brushing over the back of it on reflex and because he could never stop himself, "Yeah? I'll make sure to be very dramatic and sweep you off your feet for it." a pause, "And that there are plenty of tiny marshmallows in that cupboard I mentioned. I can't disappoint on those now, I think I'd actually feel bad if we were out after all of that." maybe he'd actually get a bag when he went back to his aunt's just to make sure. Peter was quiet a moment to think it over and let the lights and sounds fill the space before he was grinning again, "But...if you missed me so much now, does that mean you have more fireworks to show me later? Because I'm also very interested in those if you do."

There was no answer he could give that was not the honest one, if he truly wanted to build something here. And so, that was the answer he gave:
"You would have to sign something, yes, for all I feel you do not understand what for." He sighed. "And it is not the moment to properly talk about it."
But another day, when they next crossed paths, he could bring some examples. Or test the waters. Or simply keep to his word, when the youth asked for it, and leave him alone. It would not be the first time. It would still pain him, even if he couldn't protect everyone.
"My people are adaptable. They are not pleased, of course." He admitted, more bemused than serious. "But they are professionals. They know that plans do not always survive reality, and some of them remember being in your situation."
Not with his powers, but alone and distrustful and reckless, which was a far more universal experience.
And then, after a moment, he chose to be the one moving.
"Take care, ad'ika. We will meet again, with some hope." And then he turned around, towards one of the alleys. He'd find his people soon enough: he could feel where they were.

It didn't seem like there was a whole lot to understand. Paperwork had to be signed because that's how people agreed to things. All the official kinds of things like deals in businesses and jobs being accepted and places to stay for the night that were safe enough to sleep in. What was so complicated about that? Peter didn't think anything else needed to be explained but he also thought that the world was slowly tilting back and forth. He glanced over at the last of the other Mandalorians, the less dizzy part of his thoughts wondered which of them knew what it was like as he gave a loose nod, "...bye." he watched the other walk away before stumbling again. Fighting to hurry to his own side of the street as the sirens started having the sounds of tires screeching to reach them.
Peter didn't stop moving until he found somewhere small and tucked away that he could curl himself into, where he was confident no one would find him, and finally slept.
.....It took four days for him to recover enough to think he actually was doing better. That the hunger had been satisfied enough between scraps and what the loose change tossed his way could buy him, and had gained back some energy. It took another week on top of that for Peter to shake Oscorp again. Chased clear across town to the point that he'd pulled himself through a broken window and hid in the unfinished rafters of the ceiling in some old building he wasn't familiar with, until the constant hum of danger that had followed him for a week faded out and stayed gone. Tense and ready to bolt until the sun had already set before his muscles finally eased, and he dropped down to search through the building. Checking doors and moving to one of the rooms further inside. Away from the doors and the windows and the rooms that would be searched first before finding one that seemed quiet and safe.
He pulled himself onto a row of tall, metal shelving units, and curled in on himself. Made himself small to hide in the space he picked, back to the wall so he could see the way into the room and arm tucked under his head as he waited for any change before pulling his jacket hood up and let his eyes close. Trying to get some sleep in the little peace he had.

"Oh, believe me. When I was a kid, I really did think he was a robot." The confession was only semi-serious. It was actually one of the many thoughts Harry used to keep himself occupied in the minutes before passing out in bed. Imagination was his friend, almost as much as Peter Parker was.
He listens to Peter and nods. On more than one occasion, his aunt had told him that he was welcome there. It's a stark contrast to the house he grew up in; the Osborn household was strict with rules and regulations, scheduling, cold and rather unfeeling aside from the little flickers of proud moments Harry sometimes got from his father. But even with those, Harry was more convinced was to do with how well he was performing, rather than Harry's actual wellbeing. Whereas at May's, it was warm. Cosy. They had meals she prepared herself and loved Peter with all her heart. It was truly heart-warming. And not something that Harry experienced day-to-day.
Yeah, he could use some May-time.
So he finds himself nodding, before he lets out a chuckle. "Let me figure out a day I can get away from my schedule." The problem with his father letting him go to public school, was that they made sure his studies were accurate and up-to-date at the weekends. Ironically enough, right now, when he should be in school, was probably the best time for him. He thinks about it for a moment, then peers over towards Peter. "I know your birthday's on a Monday this year, but maybe we can do something the weekend before?"
Peter hummed and looked back behind them, already knowing he wouldn't spot Graves but playing the part of looking out of habit, "He's pretty convincing if he is one, I could swear he even breathes." for a moment he let his eyes scan the crowd of other students before looking ahead again. Focusing back on Harry and nodding slightly at the schedule, "Yeah, just let me know when you're able to." when, not if. Not because Peter thought that it could be soon, as much as he wished it was the case he knew that wasn't likely to happen, but to try and make it clear the invitation was an open one. Just like it had been when his Aunt May told Harry when they were still in high school. Just like it had always been and always would be. So when his friend had the chance to come by, even just for dinner, all he had to do was say so and there'd be a spot set for him at the table. It was as simple as that, and if that was three weeks or six months down the line, then he wasn't going to hold that against Harry. Ever.
Now that he was older, though, Peter did start holding it against Norman.
The added mention of his birthday was a surprise and Peter had to think about it, "Oh, yeah it is....I forgot that it was." he remembered his aunt saying something about it. If he had any plans for the day, mentioned she could take the day off work to spend it with him after class, "Yeah I'm free then, as far as I know." he finally said, and as long as nothing completely crazy happened he would still be. Which, of course, meant there would be, and he'd have to apologize this year to his aunt and Harry for being late to his own birthday before telling himself he didn't hate himself a little for it. But he would try, because he always tried, "You're not using it as an excuse to get double cake though, right? Because I feel like you could be more creative with your plan if that's it."

    The nice blue button up shirt the weatherman on ABC 7 wore was drenched in sweat, a literal presentation of the blistering heat in the city. "What a perfect day to take the Q, right?" He jests along with the news anchors. The camera cuts back to two chuckling anchors with pearly white teeth, both in high spirits. It was a slow news day. A story on a singing cat would ease most citizens in a city that was constantly plagued with costumed heroes and crime. But, the segment only unsettled the spider who woke up with intense unease.
    Even with the air conditioning blasting, the couple's apartment felt like an oven. Ice cube trays of various shapes were quickly dispersed into the water bowls of Grim and Poe. The floating ice cube shaped like a jack-o'-lantern bounced back and forth against the bowl, keeping the pair entertained while their mother tried to burn off the mysterious energy by working out in her living room. By the time Peter had returned, Cassandra had lost count on how many sit ups she has done. She hopped up, feeling a rare drop of sweat roll down the back of her neck.
    Even tasked with venturing out into the heat, it didn't appear that her beau shared the same unease. Better to quell the feeling, she concluded mentally. The intense ache from her abdomen was noticeable as she moved to greet him. She inspected the packets when given and a pierced brow raised.   â Hm. I think I've heard of these. They're gonna go nuts over this. Thank you. â
    â Us being a bad influence? â Cass snickered at the thought. â You? Never. Me? Well, I still kinda like trespassing into places I shouldn't be trespassing in. â She moved into the kitchen and began the process to assemble the cats popsicles. Cassandra bit down upon her bottom lip, something that became a habit to stop herself from physically speaking. Her lips part as if she was going to say something, ultimately she decides against it until the trays were placed into the freezer.
 â Um . . . . Would you hate it if we went out on patrol today? I know it's super hot and it's probably a lot worse for you than it is for me. I just - I dunno. I can go by myself, if you only want to relax today. â
"Okay well that's not completely fair," Peter stated, feeling Grimm make her way up to his back and kept going, "I have my own casual trespassing and break and entering I do on a weekly basis." all for good reason, there was someone else who had trespassed or broken in before him and Peter was just going to see what they were doing. In a very, friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man kind of way. He looked over as the white fluff made it to his shoulder and wobbled for balance, waiting a moment before carefully moving to put the ice cream in the freezer before it could become soup. A soft rumble of pleased purrs were the reward for his efforts not to ruin the achievement. He reached up to scratched at one of Grimm's ears, "You think we can find a collar tag that says menace in training?" he joked, looking over at Cass and pausing, watching her bite her lip as the popsicles were made and frowned, "Cass?"
That wasn't a great sign.
Peter leaned against the counter and waited, wondering if he would need to say something first before she spoke and blinked in surprise, "You wanna go out and patrol today?" Grimm awkwardly tried to crawl around to his other shoulder and he reached back to make sure there was no sudden tumble, "It's been pretty quiet, I keep checking the news but I think it's too hot even for the combined rogue's galleries. And between the two of us we have two goblins." both green at that, and quiet for now but Peter was trying not to worry about that. Tried not to think about it at all honestly. But he had been keeping an eye on all his usual news pages for updates on anything, listened to the news they had on in the background just to fill the air for any breaking news. He'd even listened in on the police scanners on his way to and from the store just in case they were keeping something quiet. On rare days the city was like that and he had just started hoping that this would actually be one of those days.
Instead, Cass was watched another moment and Peter let out a soft breath, "Alright, if you really think there's something up that we're missing, we'll go circle the blocks and make sure everything is good. But I get the first bowl of ice cream when we get back." and they might want to keep the fans running for the cats.

Harry breaks out into a grin. A genuine one - one that always seems to show up around Peter and May. It's almost like he doesn't need to pretend around them. Not that Harry himself would admit to that. "He's probably in the car eating food. I mean, I've never actually seen the guy eat, but he's bound to do it at some point. Right?" He laughs, and leads the way. "No, no spots. Just - away from school. From Oscorp. Let's actually have a catch up. C'mon."
Unless Peter has a different spot in mind, Harry directs them towards the closest pier.
"How's May? It's been a while since I've spent any time at your place. She still owes me a cake." Harry remembers that day; directing Peter away from distractions to focus on helping redecorate. Harry joined in, and officially classifies himself as the only Osborn to have ever painted a damn wall. At least, in recent history. "You're still spending time with her, right?"
"I mean he should, in theory. Unless he's secretly figured out how to survive on sunlight alone like a plant does. Which would be impressive to completely reconfigure his cells to do that but also, I think I'd be a little intimidated." Peter offered and paused, "That or he's definitely a robot, but he could be having a hotdog in the car instead." he'd make whatever dumb comments and offer whatever ridiculous theories were needed to let Harry keep grinning like that. Actually looking happy, actually laughing. It was enough to make Peter smile too as he nodded, "I think New York is big enough we can pull that off." he agreed, still following Harry in the chosen wandering path. Passively keeping his own eye out as they went.
He smiled more at the memory, even if he'd had to be reminded more than once, mostly by Harry, to focus and actually help out. He couldn't help it, Peter was too happy to have all three of them in the house, for most of a day, to focus on much else. Even if it was largely helping Aunt May move furniture around and repaint the room, it was easily the biggest highlight in the last few months for, "She's good, still working at the hospital but she still keeps telling me how much she likes it there. But she finally agreed she wouldn't help work nights anymore, it messes with her sleep way too much." he was actually getting worried about her with it, "You should come by one of these weekends, she'd love to see you again. If you give me enough of a heads up to tell her you are, I bet she'd even have your cake decorated and ready to go for you."

Peter looked like shit. Again. But Harry, at this point, had given up asking. He knew him well enough to know that the answer was just going to be: oh, I'm tired! Or oh, I've just been busy! Deflection. But that was just who Peter was. Always trying not to be a burden to anyone else, while simultaneously being the most absent person he knew. But Harry couldn't blame him. It wasn't as though he was much better. He was just better at hiding it.
Harry's gaze lingers on him for another long few moments, then he sighs, and motions for Peter to follow him. "Come on. Let's go and get some food."
Harry leads the way.
"Yeah. So-" Harry inhales deeply, and thinks of how best to describe what he wants to say. "-You're my best friend. Buuuut it feels as though we barely spend any time together, man. The best we seem to have is lunch. So, I'm thinking - if you're free until 4:30 - I skip the rest of classes and we go and we go fuck around somewhere. Just us two." A beat. "And my nosey third wheel, obviously. But he'll keep his distance."
Graves has been a fixture in Harry's life since the age of eight. Harry knows where to push. And he can justify spending time with Peter over sticking to classes. Easily.
"You in?"
The look Harry gave him lingered and deep down, Peter was sure he suspected something. That there was something being stepped around and avoided and not talked about. Maybe just not that it was Spider-Man, at least Peter really hoped that it wasn't. There had been enough times in high school when he sported the odd bruise on his jaw or his bag was coated in mud from bullies that he'd likely made Harry worry about him. With even worse excuses and attempts to brush it off back then than he had now. Finding out that it was actually Peter who was dressed in the suit always being shot at, or stabbed, or choked? Thrown into cars that dented from the force or out windows and pummeled into the concrete? Harry didn't need that, he had enough on his plate without having to add Peter onto it. So he gave a sheepish smile at the sigh and followed without argument at the mention of food, and relaxed a little.
If Harry ever planned to ask about it, it apparently wasn't going to be today.
It was fair to point out they barely got to spend time together anymore, even if it made Peter want to cringe and apologize because he hated it as much as he suspected Harry did. He didn't in favor of giving his friend a dramatically surprised look, "You wanna ditch class? The scandal." he joked before leaning over to bump against Harry's side with a grin, "I'm definitely in, even with the third wheel tagging along. Where is he this time? And please tell me it's dramatically lurking behind a bookcase, like one with mysteries or thriller or something." he was still joking, Peter knew exactly where Graves was. Ever since the bite he knew when someone was watching him, and when Harry was being watched Peter guessed he was casually being watched as well being the one hanging out with him. His skin didn't crawl as much lately as it did when he first started noticing it, "You got a spot in mind then, or is this a walk aimlessly around town and figure it out as we go kind of day now? I can work with either."
