Did you know, that like snakes and lizards, most sharks are ectothermic? This means that, normally, they’re not capable of regulating their own body temperature. However, sharks that live in frigid Arctic waters have adapted an ability called counter-current heat exchange. This method of keeping warm, allows these sharks to survive in even the coldest of the world’s oceans.

Neither are cephalopods but they’re in the Splatoon universe. Carter is a catfish and the drummer of A-Moray, a band that makes J-Rock music. He is the secret admirer of Emmeline “Emmy” Katran, a dogfish idol in the band Enemy Anenome (which I am undecided on whether it’s metal or rock).

He enjoys reading manga and collecting magazines, especially ones with his favourite idol in them. He owns more Enemy Anenome merch than anything related to his own band. Although he feels like his bandmates take up the spotlight and push him aside, he is afraid to communicate this because he worries that he would just look jealous.

He is often anxious and flees when threatened with (perceived) rejection. When he is excited about something, his tail flaps about. Carter also struggles with bad body image and trims his whiskers, which he thinks are ‘ugly’.

I thought it would be fitting to have a catfish be insecure about their image and try to change it due to the other meaning of catfish. However, I didn’t want his insecurity to be expressed in a negative way, so I made him an unconfident person who hides the features he feels make him ‘less than’.

I also thought it would be funny to have a catfish be paired with a dogfish lolllll
