The dramatic orange flowers of Aloe polyphylla (spiral aloe, many-leaved aloe) are as dramatic as the pronounced spiral pattern of the succulent leaves. These plants had survived the winter outside in a sheltered and sunny location at the base of a wall with protection from the winter rains. The flowers made a vivid clash with the surrounding pink flowers of Delosperma ‘Sani Pass’.

This Spiral Aloe at a regular job of mine looks awesome 👌 Over time the leaves form a beautiful spiral either clockwise or counter-clockwise. . 🍂 They don't begin to spiral until they are about 20-30cm in diameter, so you'll need to be patient. This example is only just beginning to spiral, after a few more years the spiral become very distinct. . 🍂 They like well drained soil and light shade. From the mountains of Lesotho in South Africa comes the remarkable Aloe polyphylla (spiral aloe, many-leaved aloe). This compact evergreen perennial has foliage which is arranged in a spiral pattern. These succulents withstand freezing temperatures and snow cover in their natural habitat. They are best planted in a free draining soil at a slight angle to ensure rainwater runs freely from the crown.
