Met this guy the other night! My husband says it's a June beetle! I've never seen one before, I had no idea the PNW had such big beetles!

Hellomn, yesssk, this looks to be one of two species...

If it has tiny hairs on the pronotum, the area behind the head before the wing covers, it's a Long-haired June Beetle (Polyphylla crinita), family Scarabaeidae.

If it lacks those hairs on the pronotum, it's a Ten-lined June Beetle (Polyphylla decemlineata), family Scrabaeidae.

I saw this guy a week or so ago and was curious what you thought he was? About the size of a pill bottle for reference

One of the ten-lined June beetles in the genus Polyphylla! Location would help narrow down which species, as the genus is found throughout North America and Europe.

Oxalis polyphylla var. heptaphylla is native to the cape of Africa. Common names include Many-leaved Wood Sorrel, Narrow-leaved Sorrel and Finger Sorrel. It is a winter growing bulb that goes dormant in the summer.

Bug of the Day

Some cool scarab beetles from my friend's collection. The one in the center is a lined June beetle, Polyphylla sp.

And yes, I know beetles are not true bugs. I see your comments. It's a branding thing, I've been doing it for more than 15 years. It's ok to use different words for things sometimes. If you want the true taxonomy, always just check the tags.
