YAYYYYYYYY The reason eh looks like that pet fish thing is because theyre are the same species! They aren't actually pets, they're called Salmonids and they're the enemies in this wave type game mode called Salmon Run (basically a shady underoaying job lmao- you tackle 3 waves of salmonids and defeat the 'boss salmonids' to collect the golden eggs from them- get a certain number of golden eggs and survivie the wave and you can go to the next 1! theres 3 waves per round/shift)

The salmonids vary wildly in appearance based on the environment theyre raised in (the 'lesser salmonids' (ones that arent bosses) tiny ones are called smallfry im not sure if theyre babies or just fully grown but tiny)

In Splatoon 3 you get a little friend eith you in the story mode, he's Lil' Buddy, also known as Smallfry. Hes a smallfry salmonid and he's actually on your side which is really cool tbh and kind of ironic because you can still do salmon run in splatoon 3 - Additionally in splatoon 3 theres a chance when playing salmon run you get an extra 4th wave where you have to go against the King Salmonid, Cohozuna aka that terrifying thing i sent you
