one of the most frustrating things about getting a job is that after you go through the absolute hellscape that is applying and interviewing and you finally prove yourself worthy of having employment, you'll end up in the workforce and realise that 90% of the people with jobs are not actually very good at them. so like why was all of that even so hard

our landlord has started ominously talking about doing property valuations for our flat so we've decided to make some mortgage appointments to see if we actually have any reasonable chance of buying something if we get kicked out. stressful, hassle, yadda yadda, but the point is i'm filling out this mortgage website's form with our details and it asks for your occupation via a dropdown menu

unsurprisingly, 'learning technologist' aka my job is not listed as one of their occupations. weirdly neither is 'IT support' which was the next closest position i could think of, but whatever, still not too unusual, but then i started scrolling down the list of what this website DOES have for accepted occupations and now i have some questions about how they establish what jobs need to be included as options

to get a job you have to have 10 years of experience in every possible tool and task that could even tangentially be related to what you'll actually be doing and then you have to prove that you're the smartest person in the world and you're organised and proactive and have great problem solving skills. and then if you beg on your knees like a dog enough and actually get the job, the entire first week will be doing spent reading shit like: 'MANDATORY HEALTH AND SAFETY TRAINING: if the floor is SLIPPERY or BUMPY, you might TRIP. this is BAD. please take this test to check your knowledge. question 1: is tripping bad? yes/no'
