There was a silence on the end of the phone when he answered and it was none other than Jorjayna, his ears turned to static, as if he was stuck inside of a television screen and it was screaming at him about what a fool he was, like a film skipping on an old tape were memories of his and Jorjie’s mishap adventures and her laughing with Too, fighting with Three, the blood, the tears, the arguments and the spite. One didn’t realise how much he had missed her, how much he had missed Evie and of her life, for a brief period, he had even forgotten he was a father.
❝Jorjie,❞
He finally spoke out, running his hand down his face.
❝It’s uh, it’s been a while, ain’t it?❞
One looked to Too who was leaning on his hand watching the television in the other room, he makes his escape towards his bedroom, slinking away from the scene as not to have the other hear what he was doing or talking about; One knew Too missed Jorjie as well as his niece, but he couldn’t get in contact with the woman simply because he had to stick to One’s side, whatever happened, they needed each other.⠀⠀⠀⠀
❝How’s Evie?❞
It had taken a lot to be able to call him, after all this time. A year. More, even. It was understood why the two of them hadn’t had any contact, but still. She had often wondered would he have even made contact if the situation had been different, if Three hadn’t been involved, simply because of how they had left things. She had made disastrous decisions. But she had done it for her family. For her daughter. She couldn’t regret that. Herself and Evie had made themselves scarce. It seemed easier, with all the problems her actions had caused between herself and Rudy, and it would keep the little girl a bit safer too. They had lived quietly in Scotland for the last year or so.
“Yeah, it definitely has,” she said, a little awkwardly. She had missed him. She had wished so much that things hadn’t ended the way they did. That she could have stayed, that he could have come with them.
“She’s fine,” she explained, looking towards the little girl, where she played on the floor. She wasn’t a baby anymore. A toddler, through and through. That was one of the reasons why she was calling. “She’s getting really big.”
“She’s one of the reasons why I’m calling. I-, I know for safety, we weren’t supposed to make contact. But I didn’t think that that would go on for this long. It’s been really difficult not knowing anything, what’s been going on, and I’m sorry if I’m calling and putting anyone in danger but... I needed to know if stuff was safe yet or not. If it is, I’m thinking of moving home. Evie’s getting older and... I don’t want her missing out on family,” she explained.
“Don’t want her missing out on you.”
