I remember the legitimate fear during Season 02 when Dean was entangled with the whole FBI mess. And the captivating twelfth episode, Nightshifter, when Victor Henriksen knew about him and Sam and his daddy, John. 

Oh, the helplessness! And, oh, the cleverness of these boys!

Nightshifter is so good that paradoxically i don’t have much to say about it, other than a bunch of random observations

Dean freaking out about Sam making a good fed is interesting. maybe he’s always a bit surprised, even scared when confronted with Sam the complex adult that differs from his image of Sam the little brother

also interesting that Dean more readily empathizes with Ronald. Sam seems almost offended by him, while Dean treats him more gently—maybe they both see a bit of themselves in him and react in opposite ways, Dean with understanding, Sam with contempt?

the lady who obsesses about Dean seems to come onto Sam as well, just very clumsily. i feel you, lady, don’t we all have those fantasies?

they’re so physically close when shit is hitting the fan, talking nearly into each other’s mouths, Sam sliding to sit down nearly on top of Dean. it’s the best, especially since otherwise there’s this tension between them, maybe because Sam is so on edge. but when shit needs to be dealt with, they become a unit

“there’s a monster in that bank, Robards,” says Henriksen and we cut to Sam. ouch

i love Henriksen so much. poor thing

Jensen’s acting in that phone call scene is so good, all those little shifts in his expression, defiance sliding into panic into anger into fear

i love competent Winchesters who know how to fight. also Sam sneaking up on Dean in swat gear! how he must secretly love Dean’s panic before Dean realizes it’s him

love Henriksen being impressed despite himself. he’s probably also more satisfied than annoyed that catching the Winchester’s wasn’t so easy, after all, that he was right about how skilful and dangerous they are

the ending is just so good and the music choice is perfect
