        “  They are.  ”  she confirmed, shaking the tin that harbored the delightful desserts.   It seemed to be a common occurrence that the princess would bring sweets by for the hardworking postman.   She sets the tin down, placing her hands on her hips.   “  And they’re all yours.  ”

            “  What is not acting respectably ?  ”  she questions, raising her eyebrows.  “  I act rather respectably whenever we have to keep up appearances for visitors.  Can I not just be myself here ?  ”   Said the princess with decorations piled atop her head like it was a festive hat.

❝   that’s what brothers do.   ❞      a smile.    a reflection of mindlessness,    careful calculation.    because to show anything other than a simple brush-off attitude would mean that he invites more trouble.    and hans certainly does not need to fuel the fire of rumours that’s been leaking about the westergärds.    there are only so many cutting remarks about their violent nature before father confronts all of his sons again.     and,   usually,   when the king of the southern isles confronted anybody    -     it had never meant to be a good thing.      ❝   please,    jesper.    you don’t need to be angry for me.    they were only simply curious,   perhaps.    after all,    i haven’t had many friends growing up.    brotherly concerns,   is all.   ❞

           The smile on her face grew even wider, resting her arms on the counter that she so frequently visited.   She moves to lean back as if she was just told something so surprising and out of character for him.   “  Wait.. you do ?  ”   she questions, scrunching her nose, pretending she didn’t believe him for a second.  Perhaps it was her frequent visits that was helping her grow on him, or the gifts of confections and foods.   Regardless, she’s very happy to hear these words.

          “  .. I do ?  ”  she questions, a smile beginning to creep at the corners of her lips while hands move to intertwine her fingers together.   “  I mean... I at least try to.  I honestly just like to be myself, which seems to be enough, I guess.  I just really like talking to people.  ”   Growing up was rather lonely, and having the opportunity to converse with the outside world only opened up so many possibilities --- how could she not be excited ?

           This time, the smile grows more.   “  But I’m glad you think so.  ”

          She moves to gaze up towards him, the corners of her lips pulling into a small smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes.  She didn’t really expect him to be out at weird hours of the night, but honestly having company wouldn’t be too terrible.   She moves to sit on one of the benches, stretching her legs out on the cobblestone street, patting the open space on the bench next to her.    “  Yeah... how come you’re out and about ?  ”
