FO4 is spectacularly bad about making me care about the plot or characters. I mostly enjoy wandering around destroyed versions of places I know, and building things.
Yeah, it really, really goes to show that all the shiny graphics in the world don't mean shit when they aren't spent on something compelling. At its best moments, when I'm just stomping around Boston and finding loot and exploring, it is genuinely good. But it has the depth of a teaspoon compared to FONV.
Admittedly Hancock is a p rad character. Shame I can't really have an interesting conversation with him. Oh, I did X quest so I can recruit him? That's it?
Remember when you had to recruit Arcade in FONV and it took some actual work, and before you recruited him, you could have lengthy conversations about his background and his work and all his terrible hints about his Dark Past?
IT'S ALL JUST GONE. It's so frustrating.

With voice options such as, accept quest, sassy accept quest, accept quest like a jerk, and not but actually yes accept
RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT? WHERE IS THE LIE?
In FO4, you get four options, and if you are lucky, one might be linked to a Charisma check. AND EVEN THEN IT’S NOT A CHECK, it’s a fucking “you have a percentage chance of this working oh and we let you save mid-conversation, feel free to reload your save and try again if you fail.”
In FO3 and FONV, you have speech checks for every SPECIAL stat (EVEN LUCK A FEW TIMES), for Science and Medicine and Survival and Bartering and Explosives and fucking everything. Your ways of handling a situation were unique to your build, actually and genuinely. /FRUSTRATED NOISES

I'm sorry but I'm a bit happy you played this earlier than me cause we've got similar game tastes, I feel comfortable in not having fo4
... Yeah, honestly, I can’t really recommend the game. I’m enjoying it, but I’m seriously, 40% of my time playing it is spent going “Man, I miss FONV” and it’s just... not a Fallout game.
