caregiver sister barnes and regressor sister paxton moodboard + headcanons :D
TW: mentions of religion and religious trauma
headcanons below the cut :>
- i like to imagine an au where they both leave the church together, and start a life of their own. barnes was always someone that paxton looked up to, and she’s something of a big sister to her.
- sister paxton had been regressing for most of her life, but she didn’t really understand what it was. she managed to keep it hidden very well, and it was something she was really embarassed and ashamed about.
- the first time paxton regressed in front of barnes was after a particularly humiliating day during their missions. it was after they had finished for the night, and they were both using the bathroom in the church before heading home. paxton could feel it coming on, and wasn’t unable to stop it before she started crying in the stall. sister barnes wasn’t really sure how to help, or what it meant, but she cared enough to sit there with her and try to calm her down.
- after that, they started talking about it, and barnes did some research on the topic out of curiosity (and because she cared about her). when they both realized what it was, they started to understand it better, and barnes was always supportive.
- since paxton had no one else to go to with regression, she ended up going to barnes a lot. they started to hang out outside of their missionary work more often, testing the waters with this new dynamic.
- they both LOVED it. sister barnes had always wanted a little sister, and she loved to take care of her like this. and of course sister paxton was ecstatic to have a big sis.
- we know that sister barnes was more of a skeptic than sister paxton was, and that she was already rebelling from the church before this. i think that seeing paxton like this would only make her want to leave the church more. seeing how ashamed she felt of her regression, how restricted she was in her life, and how naively she believed in it all really made her upset. she wanted better for her.
- when they do end up leaving the church, they’d get an apartment together. at this point, they’re pretty attached to each other, and it only made sense for the both of them.
- paxton is SO tiny. she’s an absolutely teeny baby and she loves being held and rocked by her big sis.
- she’s also very teary and weepy… she has a lot of guilt and shame left over from the church and she can get so so sad. but barnes is always always there to make her feel better. she’s always reassuring her. “no, no, it’s okay… you’re awesome, okay? it’s all okay, i promise…”
- barnes is very protective over her. she’s never really had anyone this close, and she’s terrified of losing that. she loves her baby with all her heart.
- she calls paxton lots of little nicknames!! her favourites are “bunny”, “baby”, and “sweetpea”. paxton giggles a lot about being called bunny.
- paxton’s favourite regressed pastime is for barnes to read to her. she loves being rocked while she listens to a story, and she always gets so sleepy.
- she is a very very clingy baby. she always needs her big sis and bursts into tears if she’s left alone for too long. barnes always comes rushing back in, to hold her and shush her gently. “sissie… p’ease…” “shhh, i’m here baby… i’m sorry i left you for so long. i’m here now.”
- barnes can be a little strict with things like naptime, bedtime, and bath time, but she’s always kind about it. she just wants the best for her baby!!
- this is definitely super self-indulgent but i also like autistic sister paxton… always fidgeting with something and she really struggles to voice her needs. she stutters a lot and sometimes she has verbal shutdowns and can’t speak at all.
