You Know
You know you’re a spoonie when your pharmacy staff knows you by first name.
You know you’re a spoonie when you have to reschedule medical appointments for other more urgent medical appointments. 😐
Mission Accomplished
Today was the day. This day only comes around every 5-7 years. I dread this day. However, the highly sensitive military operation I had to execute today was less painful than I anticipated.
As a chronically ill human with very little reserves and a lot of pain, accomplishments like this are monumental. I know most of you ladies will be able to relate to my struggle, especially the chronically ill ones.
I went to bra shopping today. I had a plan, an executive order to perform with swift efficiency. I darted into Victoria’s Secret. I stayed low, targeted the least lacy and the least glitzy – the ones without the hazardous under wires, the softest ones. I took my prize to the dressing room and had a disarmingly cute sales associate help to attain the optimal fit.
Tried on two bras, bought two bras, and walked calmly out of the store. Mission “over-the-shoulder-boulder-holders” accomplished. We suffered no casualties. Today is a good day.
Healthcare
Healthcare is a right, not a commodity. 👏🏻
A PhD in Physics
Spoonies weigh everything. We are masters of the way things run, feel, and cost. I mean that in every way. We know the inner workings of our medical clinics and bodies like a draconian leader. We can feel the exact weight of how much an object is by looking at it, how much will it hurt to move, or fall into. There are a million variables. As Spoonies we are perpetual scientists constantly, hypothesizing, experimenting, measuring, and getting help from others to make sure that we are not alone. We are experts of the tiniest things. We know how much energy those things cost, how much pain they cause, how much stress they can bring. We are the chronically ill, quantum masters. It's not easy, it's life on hard mode - every day.
