Spooptober Readathon Announcement!
As promised, here is some information about the readathon I will be hosting in October. It is focused on tumblr/booklr, though if anyone wants to do something elsewhere I’m not opposed! Feel free to participate as much or as little as you want. In the next week or so, I will make a post with book recommendations for each of the challenges. In the meantime, feel free to share this information and let me know if you’d like to take part!
When is the readathon?
It will last two weeks, from Friday, October 18th, until Thursday, October 31st.
What exactly is a readathon?
It’s an excuse to read, a lot. Push yourself outside of your comfort zone, read more than you normally would, pick up a book that’s been staring at you forever. The nice thing about readathons is that they occur in a community, so we can see what everyone is reading and cheer each other on!
Who can participate?
Anyone! There won’t be a dedicated chat (unless people think it would be fun to have a Discord?), so we’ll mostly find each other via booklr posts and hashtags.
Is there a theme?
Yeah! Most of the challenges ask you to read something creepy, but how creepy you go is up to you, especially since we all find different things to be creepy.
What are the challenges?
Read a book with a dead character! This could be a ghost, a zombie, a vampire, or a character who died before the story begins - your choice.
Read a book with red on the cover!
Read a horror classic. The definition of “classic” is of course flexible!
Read a book only at night!
Read a scary graphic book (graphic novel, comic, manga, etc.)
Read a translated book.
Read a horror or thriller written by an author of color.
Do I have to do all the challenges?
No! Pick and choose which ones you want to complete. There are no guidelines for how scary your selections are, either. Go all out horror, psychological thriller, or completely avoid any mention of things that go bump in the night. You can also combine challenges if you’d like, so maybe you read the translated book only at night, or the classic has a dead character, etc.
How can I participate?
Make a TBR! Post which books you are planning on reading and how they meet the challenges.
Post reading updates - let us know how it’s going! Are you blazing through your books, going slower than expected, loving or hating anything you’ve read?
Write book reviews! As you complete the books, tell us what you thought.
Post book pictures - this may not be Instagram but we still appreciate a good aesthetic.
Post book hauls, either from the bookstore or library!
Write a wrap-up post. Once the readathon is over, let us know how it all went!
Use the hashtag “#spooptober readathon” so we can find you!
You can also tag me in any posts! I’d love to see how everyone is faring.
And for everyone who had indicated interest before: @electrikel @storyteller-le @vaellinn @coffeebooksorme @zoueriemandzijnopmars @myonetruebook @really-so-fucking-done @bookishly-kate @sierrareads @ferraverto @kandidlyrandom @rayonfrozenwings @darling-archeron and I will DM a couple of people!
