SPOUSE VOWS
Marriage brings about a lot of changes. You must have heard this very often from every single person you have met in your lifetime. But how to embrace this change no one ever tells you. I for instance remember how inquisitive my courtship period was; the time period between my engagement and wedding; me and husband were getting to know each other slowly and steadily. But more importantly we were trying to hide our true selves from each other, for the fear that if at all we find something which is unacceptable to each other what will happen?? What will happen if the wedding cancels?? Who will get married to us?? And so on and so forth. At that particular time we were more focused on portraying ourselves as the best match for each other. There were dinner dates, gifts, flowers, chocolates, etc. I was on cloud nine learning that my to be husband is a total romantic like me. Well, I cannot deny the fact that I was too blinded by the fairy-tale love stories I was addicted to. I too expected to be loved, pampered and showered with surprises and gifts. Anyways, all this stuff is materialistic (not that I don't like them but they are secondary). Then came the wedding, it happened so quickly like a flash of lightning. Seriously and honestly I was so engrossed in planning and doing chores at my own wedding that I did not really get to feel the moments. But there were moments which I will always remember; Dad crying like a baby while everybody were singing and dancing outside, he came into his room and cried in solace, when I saw him I could not help but the dam of my tears burst and we both hugged each other and cried till we were sore. My second best moment was when after bidaai we were coming home, I was feeling so lost without my parents around, the anxiety of my new life which was just some five hundred metres away and I was in tears, that moment husband held my hand reassuring me that no matter what he'll always be by my side. That reassurance gave me peace and comforted me that I wasn't all alone in my new house. Now you must be thinking what about my special moment with my Mom, well me and mom never really got to experience that as I said we were too busy in the wedding propaganda. So then here I am today going strong on my marriage for ten long years. Surely we both have had our ups and downs, some bickering, some imperfections, too many arguments, a lot of amazing Sex, our struggles, our insecurities, but trust me its all worth it. And nothing hurts you more when you find yourself alone in the battle of marriage. Its your spouse who is going to stay with you when everybody are gone; your parents, your children; your siblings; everyone. So please do not miss on the moments you spend with your spouse. Because when you will grow old and you are weak and frail, the only hand you will search for is your spouse's. Only then you will remember of all the struggles; personal, social, financial; each and every fight you ever had and you will realise this that it was all worth it!
