I figured it out during the food shortages conversation. They have a discussion about not having enough food and needing to ration literally 3 minutes after David says they can't bury anyone until Spring? It seemed pretty obvious to me... but clearly I have a terrible mind because I watch a bunch of reaction videos on YouTube and a bunch of them seemed totally shocked until the ear or even Ellie just outright saying it!
