Woo Bum-kon was a South Korean policeman who was responsible for the deaths of 56 people and 35 casualties during a killing spree. It all started on the afternoon of April 26th, 1982, when his girlfriend had woken him up by swatting a fly that had landed on his chest, resulting in a huge argument between them. He then left for work and returned home and punched and kicked his girlfriend and smashed furniture. He then made his way to the reservists’ armory and gathered many weapons, including seven hand grenades. He shot his first victim before entering a post-office and killing three phone operators. He then went to another village and threw a grenade and started gunning down passers-by in the marketplace. He moved on to another third village and forced an 18-year-old to buy him a soft drink from a grocery store before killing the boy and the store owner’s entire family. He hopped from village to village, taking advantage of his position as an officer to gain entry into homes and kill its inhabitants. In the end, Woo Bum-kon killed himself and three of his hostages with two grenades.
