My cat escaped the house when we were letting the dog out and my mom ran and got me like "I tried to catch him but he just keeps running away so you're gonna have to deal with him."

Meanwhile, all I had to do was walk around outside for a couple minutes until he could see me (even though it’s pitch black out because it's nighttime, his eyes do the glowy-refraction thing when light hits them) and then make a point of walking towards him. When he went to dart, I just shrugged and went "Suit yourself, kiddo." and went back inside. After about three minutes of him running around in the cold, albeit not straying too far from home, he realized that I wasn't going to chase him and came right back to the door to come back inside.

I'm so glad he's enough of a mama's boy that I can pull a "If you don't stop throwing a tantrum and get over here on the count of three I'll just leave you here in aisle 6" move and it actually works.
