Hello there friend. How are you today? Hope you're doing well!
Hello dear c:
I'm okay, I'm very tired though. I have just started a new job as technical support for a broadband company, so I'm getting educated about everything that's technical stuff right now. What about you? :)
can i ask how easy a hognose is to look after? friends of mine have corn snakes but i kind of adore hognoses and would love one when i can get my first snake. have you found Pretzel pretty easy to care for? sorry if this is a question you get a lot! Pretzel is super adorable by the way, i love coming here and looking at how much of a cutie he is
One thing that's worth knowing is that some hognoses (particularly males, for some reason) can be prone to going off their food for no reason. The only feeding problem I've had with Pretzel so far was when I first brought him home and he took about 2 months to properly settle into a decent feeding schedule. (Thankfully there are plenty of ways to entice a snake to eat, but it's still worth knowing that this can happen.)
Other things that are important for a stress-free snake-keeping experience include:
- Making sure you handle/check over a snake before making a purchase. If this isn't possible, make sure you're buying from somewhere reputable. Also ask for the snake's feeding history to ensure that they are established feeders!
- Always having funds for potential vet visits. Hognoses are pretty hardy creatures in general, but that's not to say they won't require a trip to the vet from time to time. It's always good to make sure you have a vet nearby that specialises in exotics, and the money to pay for vet bills!
- Doing plenty of research. I honestly can't stress this enough.
But yeah, hognoses are fantastic snakes to keep, and I couldn't recommend them enough.
sprite--wings reblogged your post Is it OK if the “types of alters” that... and added:
Yep. Every system varies and the roles are just fairly common but not absolutely necessary :) some dont like to apply...
thank you so much!
