So, back in 1959, there was a debate in the United States, a fear, a curiosity, about the existence of "beatniks," about the whole "beat" movement.
LIFE, never the hippest rag but willing to take a look, published this contrasting picture of life in some Everytown in Kansas versus life in what it considered to be the beatnik mecca, Venice, California., "Squaresville U.S.A. vs. Beatsville":
And, so, we close this peek at life in the American mid-century. We'll close with this poignant quote from a teenager in that midwest town:
2010s webseries that i love
- the lizzie bennet diaries (2012)
- squaresville (2012)
- a tell tale vlog (2013)
- kissing in the rain (2014)
- carmilla (2015)
- poe party (2016)
(honorable mention to my all time favorite webseries little white lie, which was made in 2006)
anyways i just love the sudden outbreak of old novels being adapted into webseries in the 10s, because they’re such good stories at their core and the reimagining of them presents the story for a new generation and ahhh there’s just so much potential there and it was tapped into but if it ever made a comeback i would be so down
Oh and if you were here during Squaresville I’m bisexual and nonbinary now so yeah the gay one turned out to be The Gay One
The LezWatch.TV character of the day is "Esther" from Squaresville
Mary Kate Wiles as Zelda in Squaresville
That’s the point Zelda, sheesh, flatten the curve already
