being a bird owner and bird nerd in general really does fill me with lots of small and asinine grian headcanons.

like: does grian have a gizzard? and if he does, does this guy eat rocks???

#squawk talk #the visual of a grown man eating gravel for health reasons is infinitely silly to me #realistically i dont think any food he is eating would be unprocessed enough to require gastroliths #but then that also brings up the questions of how robust is his chewing action because many birds dont really chew #they just swallow food whole and their internal organs pick up slack #idk i just think if you sat across from a bird hybrid during dinner it would be an interesting experience from all angles

on the one hand, i wish we learned more about eridian social structures in the phm book

on the other hand, that means until andy weir makes a sequel WE get to do it. come play in the space with me. what do YOU think the average eridian household looks like?

#squawk talk #project hail mary #i LOVE the eridian polycule headcanon (it probably goes against book canon but idk if i care tbh)#more parents caring for a litter makes more sense esp since eridians are canonically cosexual and highly communal #in my mind it goes like: mates (2-5) offspring (5 avg per litter) and other relatives (grandparents-unmated siblings-older litters etc)#or maybe its a multiple related groups of mates across multiple generations working together situation like acorn woodpeckers #group min prob goes from like 2 (mates/friends/siblings-enough to watch each other sleep) and up to like 50 (everyone youve ever known)#i mean they HAVE the perfect memory and the innate social need to make a large group like that work #maybe smaller family units are more common in urban areas since community daycare is accessible and all that #so you dont NEED grandpeepaw to watch the kids or u dont need kids at all period (go DINKs)#downside of this is that the avg family on erid would probably experience truly horrific amounts of interpersonal drama #like rocky tries to explain adrian’s birth family politics once and grace gets a migraine #rocky: so adrian’s parent’s sibling’s third litter does not like adrian’s sibling’s fourth mate’s parent #grace: i need to lie down

another au idea ive been rolling around but desert duo flavored:

through a series of intentional and unintentional game mechanics, third life!grian and secret life!scar manage to escape the interdimensional holding space the lifers put the "game versions of themselves".

they flee on what is possibly the worst world-hopping roadtrip ever with no company but each other. yikes! good luck boys!

meanwhile on season 10 hermitcraft, grian and scar frantically try to figure out how to get the wayward pieces of themselves back with as little discussion about said pieces as possible
