4, 15, 45, 48 for the writing fic meme!
4. What is your favorite genre to write for?
Probably romantic comedy, if that can be a fic genre! I love writing light-hearted fun that ends with my faves getting together, whether it’s in different universes or whatever other ridiculous circumstances. I like writing things that makes other people smile. There are plenty of dark things in the real world; to me, it’s important to write things that are bright and warm and fun.
Also, smut.
15. If you write OC’s, how do you decide on their names?
Sometimes, depending on the context, I like to work in references to the actor’s names or something else tangential (Sophie in magic is obviously named for her actress, because it felt weird to have a girl actually named Gazelle at Hogwarts) but I also shamelessly use my friend’s names whenever or wherever possible. I make no attempts to disguise my blatant cheesy tendencies, lol.
45. What spurs you on during the writing process?
The single, unequivocal, most valuable thing to my writing process is having a friend to shout about writing with. From coming up with really fun plots to untangling said plots, figuring out character stuff, hell - just for maintaining motivation in finishing a piece, nothing is more important to me than having a friend with whom to shout about my current fic/fandom/OTP/idea! It’s really what keeps the fire in my veins to keep writing.
I’ll also say, comments on fic are so, so incredibly important too! I came back to a fic this year that I hadn’t written for in over a year because I kept getting such incredibly kind, heartfelt comments from readers, who were adamant about their love for what I had written even though there wasn’t much visible sign of it continuing. Leaving your love for a writer is not only validating, but it is water on the parched soil of the soul!
48. What’s your favorite trope to write?
Mutual pining is my silver bullet. I love that shit. I love seeing my faves in love but having no idea the other feels the same way, and the hijinks of them finally figuring it out. Going hand in hand with that: friends-to-lovers, fake/pretend relationships, unresolved sexual tension, all that good shit. I’m also very partial to AUs on the whole!
