Young-il opens the door to the bathroom, and as soon as it swings shut behind them, he turns, fists a hand in Gi-hun’s uniform, and shoves him back into a bathroom stall. Gi-hun stumbles, surprised, catches himself on the stall’s wall and looks at him.

“What are you doing?” Gi-hun asks.

“Getting away from the cameras.” Young-il says, like it’s obvious, stepping into the stall with him.

Gi-hun does a quick scan. There are no cameras in here, were there cameras in the main bathroom? He’s not sure.

Young-il leans closer, his hands slip to Gi-hun's waistband, and his fingers slip beneath it. Gi-hun recoils, his hands grabbing Young-il’s before they can go any further, feeling his cheeks flush, nerves and shock flooding through him, confusing him.

“What are you doing?” Gi-hun asks again.

“Detective Hwang, we have your husband.” Mr. Kim says.

“What?” Inho says.

“You are going to give up the case with Prosecutor Kang, and transfer the case to someone else on the team.” Mr. Kim says. “Or we will kill him.”

Gihun feels like cold water has just been poured on him. They’ve kidnapped him for Inho? To get him to give up a case?

“You expect me to believe you’ve got Gihun there?” Inho asks. “He’s not even quiet when he’s sleeping, and you’re telling me he’s quiet while being kidnapped?”

Gihun makes a noise of protest and twists in his seat to look at the phone in Mr. Kim's hand, but the man in the passenger seat smashes the gun into the side of his head, turning him back to the road. The car swerves sharply, Gihun lets out a grunt of pain and blinks heavily, trying to clear the dizziness.

“Shit, watch where you’re going.” Mr. Kim says. “We’ve got him, we’ll dump his body on the side of the road.”

“Call me back when there’s a body.” Inho says, and hangs up.

“Shit.” Mr. Kim says again. “Your husband is a piece of work.”

“Lottery. I won a hundred thousand won. I think I can get it back.” The man’s legs are spread around a drain, he’s looking through the gaps, the gaps with water flowing through them, no doubt washing the ticket out of reach, ruining it.

Winning forty five point six billion won took the joy out of gambling for In-ho, but a year ago he was in the same place as this man.

In-ho indulgently steps towards him and pulls the blindfold off, dropping it on the small side table beside his whisky.

Gi-hun looks around wildly, before focusing back on him. “Where am I?”

In-ho turns the screen on. It opens to a feed of the dormitory, the lights on harshly, the soldiers in the middle of clearing the dead, the remaining players in clumps, as far away from the soldiers as they can get, other soldiers pointing guns at them, keeping them in place.
