☕️ talk about your feelings for taz, I’m not sure if I wanna get into it but I’m interested in opinions

So I was a bit skeptical at first with how popular it seemed on tumblr, so it took me a while to actually start with it. But I always enjoy sibling dynamics (having siblings myself) and I know i would love to play tabletop rpgs with my own family so I decided to give it a try.

I’m very glad I did, because it starts of fairly goofy, very low stakes and the McElroys all approach it with different experience and familiarity, but they all have fun with their characters and the story grows and evolves in such a way that the emotional beats end up creeping up on you and hitting very good notes. And the out-of-character banters and jokes really emphasizes the IRL family dynamics which are just so fun for me to witness as someone who enjoys their own family for the most part.

it’s pretty easy listening, and TAZ:Balance is followed up by a variety of live-show, and experimental one-shots that use different system and have different stories. So even if you don’t like TAZ: Balance, you can always try TAZ: Amnesty, hop straight into their newest one TAZ:Graduation, or just wander through their one-shots.

Unpopular opinion x 3 (or at least an attempt at an unpopular opine)

Games: This is super broad, so I’m going to assume maybe videogames? Triple A companies are just as bad as Hollywood when it comes to making new ideas and representing diverse and fresh characters/stories. AKA they don’t and when they do, it falls flat and awkward.

D&D: The usual 5 player races are boring as all hell. Give me more ‘monsters’ and beast-based races. Or at least put a fresh twist on elves and dwarves other than ‘tall beautiful humans’ and ‘tiny angry humans’. I don’t got time for boring characters.

Science: Most media coverage of recently published research is absolute bullshit. There are at least 3 different headlines for each new thing, each of them completely miscommunicating the actual results. Science reporting should be done by someone trained both in the scientific rigor and communication/journalism skills. Honestly, there should be more universities teaching how to effectively public outreach because science is absolutely useless if no one outside the ivory tower can understand it.
