It may behoove you, gentle reader, to recollect that in a gambling den run by squirrels during the halcyon days of riverboats and port-side wild-woolery, disagreements over cards or other games of chance were as common as fleas. And you may recall that our airborne friend,(pictured above) the dashing tree mammal known as Titus Vander-Scamper was not only keen on the playing of cards but also devout in the swift administration of justice upon those who would sully the noble sport by employing any of the dark arts of cheating. “It takes a wrinkled soul to deceive at cards and I am honor bound to iron that soul flat by means swift, flinty and permanent” he would often state. And so we see here an illustration of his devotion in its fullest flower. On this particular evening Titus was only a card short of a flush. Luck smiled and on his last draw a majestic queen of hearts fulfilled his royal hand. But as the cards were laid down around the table a certain foxy gentleman displayed four of a kind. All of them queens including a duplicate of the hearted majesty. The lull of calculation as to guilt or innocence was brief. Barely a flea was scratched or a cigar puffed before Titus tendered his verdict. The Fox was congenial company but was also a known conniver. “Mr Fox was an able jokester and cheerful company “ admitted Titus “He will be missed. But not at cards.” There was a general agreement. The game continued till well past dawn and with no further altercation..Truth,apparently, matters even to squirrels. . . . . . #illustrationart #kidslit #kidsillustration #librariansofinstagram #sketchoftheday #pencilsketches #sketching #charcoaldrawing #squirrelsofinstagram #squirrels #squirrely #cardslinger #furryart #furrys #squirrelsatcardswithcigarsandweapons https://www.instagram.com/p/ByX8KR4l4g5/?igshid=xm43h547savc
Photos of the Week Series: June 29, 2018
Associate Photo Editor Kristen McNicholas has been responsible for looking at daily uploads so she has the first set of eyes on every image that the Your Shot community shares. She starts each day looking through thousands of photographs and this series will be a selection of her favorites from the past week. Each Friday she will be sharing her favorites here!
"Photography has the power to unite us, to introduce us to people we might never meet otherwise. A love of photography creates a foundation for people all around the world to connect, learn and inspire. The Your Shot community does this every day, across 195 countries.
Last Saturday the Your Shot team held a Behind the Scenes event at headquarters in Washington, D.C. We had the pleasure of connecting with over twenty Your Shot members and hosting a photo walk with former White House photographer, Lawrence Jackson, pictured in the final photo of this week's series. I loved Geoff's photo of Lawrence too much to not share with you all.
If not for photography, I wouldn't have met anyone involved on Saturday, including Lawrence from when I interned at the Obama White House in 2016 where my desk sat right in front of his. Photography lets us all share our stories and I'm thankful for the Your Shot community allowing me to keep telling mine, and sharing theirs with me."
