Sorting: Voltron

*This post contains spoilers for seasons 1, 2, and 3 of the following show: Voltron Legendary Defender*

Shiro: Hufflepuff

Shiro has all the traits of a Hufflepuff. He’s caring, loyal and will protect the people he cares about with everything he’s got. He’s also the one to see the good in people when others won't, or at least keep an open mind. He’s the definition of a powerful Hufflepuff. When the team loses hope or is kind of falling apart, he’s there to cheer them up and give them motivation. He doesn’t give up on Voltron even when it seems hopeless. He’s the caring, fearless leader that doesn’t get annoyed easily (even by Lance), though with the exception of Slav. This puts Shiro in the wonderful house of Hufflepuff!

Lance: Slytherin

Lance shows traits for all of the houses: he’s loyal like a Hufflepuff, daring like a Gryffindor, and smart like a Ravenclaw. However, it’s his undeniable ambition that causes Slytherin to fit him the best. When we meet Lance, one of the first things that we discover is his self-proclaimed rivalry with Keith. Lance strives to be better than Keith and to step out his label of “just the cargo pilot.” He makes everything between them a competition because he wants to prove that he’s just as good (if not better) than the ace fighter pilot. Lance is also strongly driven by his need to find his own niche in the team. All of the other members have their thing (Shiro is the leader, Keith is the pilot, Pidge is the tech-genius, e.t.c), but Lance doesn’t think that he has anything. Because of this, he strives to create a name for himself, even going as far as pointing out his sharpshooter abilities to the others to show them that he shouldn’t be underestimated. Lance is also highly insecure (something shown both in the show and confirmed by the creators), and because of this lack of confidence, he truly doesn’t fit the mold of a Gryffindor as many might suggest. Lance is ambitious. He’s clever, determined, and he values his friends more than almost anything (fraternity). Because of this, Lance would make a great Slytherin!

Keith: Gryffindor

Gryffindors tend to be sort of impulsive and reckless, and we see both of these traits clearly in Keith. We see it when he breaks into a Garrison facility to save Shiro. We see it when he decides to take on Zarkon in a 1 on 1 battle. We see it when he decides to fight in the Blade of Marmora Trials, when he volunteers to go onto a Galra ship because he’s the only one who can use the tech, and when he decides to chase after Lotor’s ship without considering the consequences. He’s even been called hot-headed by other character on the show! With this recklessness and impulsivity also comes Keith’s bravery and courage. He isn’t afraid to speak his mind or voice his concerns (see also: admitting that he doesn’t think he should pilot the black lion.) He will do whatever it takes to protect his friends, even if it means endangering his own safety. Keith is incredibly brave, and is usually willing to jump head-first into a mission without an ounce of fear. Like a true Gryffindor, he never fails to support his friends, and acts as a shoulder for both Shiro and Lance to lean on. Keith is probably the easiest character to sort, as his daring, nerve, and courage make him a clear Gryffindor!

Pidge: Slytherin/Ravenclaw

Slytherin: It is well known that Pidge it the sass of the team, the one who won't put up with anyone’s crap. Though that’s very true, it’s not the only reason she would be sorted into Slytherin. She’s cunning as well, she thinks out of the box to reach her goal. Pidge has also shown that she would do anything to get her brother back, she was going to leave Voltron to find him even though she knew that it could put the other paladins and even the entire universe into a very problematic situation. She even got kicked out of the garrison for breaking several rules and it didn’t stop her! She didn’t think, “Hey, maybe this won’t work.” No. She thought, “Welp, time to make an entirely new appearance and change my name to get back in so I can continue” which I admire! Pidge would be a great fit for the ambitious house of Slytherin!

Ravenclaw: Pidge is incredibly intelligent, which we see in a variety of ways. She manages to hack into Garrison computers and disguise herself without getting caught, hack into a variety of Galra systems including computers and robots, find a lead on her brother, and create upgrades for pods and her lion. She’s also quite witty, and is prone to making sarcastic remarks and cracking jokes (which tend to go over her friend’s heads.) Though she is never explicitly shown to be super accepting (though it’s assumed because she never shows any hostility towards Keith or any other aliens) a large part of her identity and story revolves around acceptance. She relies on being accepted by her friends, showing that she values acceptance, an important Ravenclaw trait. Pidge is a great fit for Ravenclaw!

Hunk: Hufflepuff

Hunk is incredibly loyal, not only to his friends, but also to the people he just met. He follows Lance in the first episode even though he doesn’t know what the consequences are because he has faith in his friend. He follows through with his promise to help Shay and her people and is a constant advocate for saving them. He is also one of the first to be seen openly supporting Keith after his Galra heritage is revealed. Though often initially suspicious of people he doesn’t know, Hunk would do anything to help his friends, and stands by their sides regardless of the circumstances. He is also a hard worker, which is seen in his dedication to the team and his clear engineering skills. Hunk is an incredibly smart character, often causing him to be sorted into Ravenclaw, but it’s important to note that Hufflepuffs can be smart too! Hunk is smart, hard-working, dedicated, and loyal. Because of that, he must be a Hufflepuff!

Allura: Slytherin

Allura, former princess of Altea and now the paladin of the blue lion. She could fit into any house really, but I feel that Slytherin would suit her best. She’s the cunning type, she has a system to making allies and just wants to continue what her father started and take back the universe from the Galra. She usually knows what to do and what to sacrifice, though as she’s shown us, family can cloud her judgement tremendously. She would do anything to find fellow alteans and has put the team in danger multiple times because of it. Allura is friendly and caring, she puts other’s needs above her own, though that doesn’t stop her from not doing anything until they have a plan. I think she could do wonderfully in the cunning house of Slytherin!

Coran: Ravenclaw

Coran Coran the gorgeous man! This man has extensive knowledge about the universe that even Allura doesn’t know. He is fascinated by old Altean things, and you can definitely tell that as a kid, he studied his butt off about useless stuff. He’s wise and trustworthy which makes me think he could be great in Ravenclaw!

flash is pretty much good at everything he tries and cannot understand how he hasn’t gotten his mark yet. it frustrates him to no end

mal was the first to get his cutie mark and will not shut up about it

mal is the youngest of 5, hes got 4 older sisters that are basically clones of him. they sporadically show up to the house unannounced with 50 suitcases between the 4 of them

he thinks they’re the most annoying and overbearing ponies on the planet but cant understand when bug tells him thats what it feels like to live with him

bug is an only child and very much a mummas boy

flash has one younger sister but shes cut all contact now

tom absorbed his twin in the womb and cries about it at least once every day

flash is an ex-wonderbolt, the official reason he was kicked out is for ‘reckless endangerment’ and hes essentially on a kind of flight parole. if hes caught doing stunts or anything dangerous he’ll be fully banned from flying

partly because of this, and partly out of old habits, he still goes for long flights every morning before the sun is up and hes unlikely to be caught doing whatever he wants

sometimes bug joins him and they race through the woods. flash wishes he was a pegasus so they could fly together tho

as an earth pony bug is naturally the strongest, flash is the only one who could possibly pose any sort of challenge for him in a fight

tom and mal will never join since neither have ever gotten up before 10am. also theyre not invited

flash can and has performed a sort of sonic rainboom of his own (but more firey)

flash does love flying (he needs it to keep his head clear) but also wishes he was born a unicorn. hes fascinated by their magic and has been studying mal like the specimen she is

hes also been trying to teach mal magic (its not going well)

mal wishes he was born a pegasus

flash has autism and mal has adhd and theyre best friends

tom is scared of heights

theyre all unemployed save for flash who picks up weird odd jobs here and there and sometimes tries to auction off mal’s shit to keep them afloat

flash was the last to join the friend group and still feels like a bit of an outcast. especially as hes the only one without a cutiemark, he’s never really felt like he belongs
