squrrielflight relationship thoughts

moonlight: squlif should have moved out with her buff girlfriend and left the clans before any of the bullshit she went through in TBC happened.

stormfur: i wish that weird romance plot wasn’t a thing, I remember being 12 and hating it even then. i think they could have a cute friend dynamic though. hoping the graphic novels fix it/retcon his romantic feelings entirely.

brambleclaw: he’s a jerk to her and their relationship sucks, and it doesn’t even suck in a way that’s interesting it just sucks because the authors are misogynists. i do reallly like fix it fics where their relationship is a lot better and the way it falls apart after hollyleaf spills the secret hits way harder. canon brambleclaw sucks tho.

ashfur: he’s a jerk to her but in a way that is actually narratively interesting because he’s allowed to be in the wrong (unlike brambleclaw whose terrible actions are often hand waved by the authors) like i don’t ship it, but their relationship has more depth and intrigue than most canon wc relationships are written. i like unhealthy relationship dynamics when they are actually written intentionally. TBC was flawed but i like ashfur as a villain a lot, excellent case of horrible person great character. there’s a good reason why there’s so much fan content around this dynamic it’s very interesting.

shrewpaw: eh? i didn’t think about him at all until the AU where he lives started gaining traction. potential because he’s a blank childhood friend slate for anyone to slot their ideas into but not something im very interested in.

daisy: i LOVE this ship. two divorced moms finding comfort in each other and supporting each other makes me smile.

crowfeather: not something i ship but the aus about it interest me in a narrative way. the less women exposed to canon crowfeather though the better, hes fumbled enough relationships.

leafstar: something ive been kicking around in my head since skyclan joined the lake territory. idk if there is anything here but i will never discount an opportunity for cat yuri. squlif joining skyclan to escape the oppressive judgment from thunderclan about her relationships/family might have some good bones to build off of, especially in an au where firestar brings skyclan back to the clans before AVoS.

aroace squrrielflight: personal favorite, works well with her narrative, makes me happy

I think if Brambleclaw was written as someone who has never been his own person and he seeks control over Squrrielflight to compensate would make a more interesting dynamic for their abusive relationship 

Brambleclaw was first Tigerstar, then a tool of Starclan, then a failed Firestar, and then possessed by Ashfur, and after getting his body back realises he has never just been himself (not that he would know who that is besides angry and insecure)

This then also works really great with the initial plan for him to run off and be a kittypet, which I think he should do after he retires from being leader if he was written this way so he could ‘find himself’
