My HC is that Dustpelt and Spiderleg have such a :/ relationship because Shrewpaw was Dustpelt's favorite and though he would never say it aloud or even allude to it, there is a part of him that is resentful that it was Shrewpaw who died and not Spiderleg during the Great Hunger and no matter how hard Spiderleg tries to gain his father's approval, he will never be the idealized version of Shrewpaw that Dustpelt has created in his head.

I love him as Squirrelflight's bestie as apprentices even though it is only barely supported by the text. I would have made them even better friends.
