Asher was looking for something new to wear for his sister’s engagement party. He hated family occasions and he knew that everything he put on his body would be put under scrutiny. Southridge wasn’t exactly full of designer outlets; the thrift store would have to do. He held up a pinstripe jacket, holding it against his body and clicking for the attention of the person nearby. “Tell me the truth... are stripes still in fashion? Do stripes flatter me?” He tilted his head, feeling completely clueless. “What about a beige suit?” He huffed.

Biography:
Kai was born in London, England. Their family came from money on both sides and their dad owned several businesses that Kai never really bothered to understand. Though growing up, to Kai it felt like they used that money to keep them far away from home. Kai travelled to America often with their dad for his work. Kai knew that their dad wanted Kai to follow in his footsteps one day. But from a young age, Kai knew that life was not for them. Though most of Kai’s childhood was spent in boarding schools between England and America. Their dad had very little interest in finding out about Kai and what they wanted to do, all he cared about was working and his business.
Kai has always been a little rough around the edges but that has always been part of their charm. As a child, they always seemed to attract attention and Kai could always talk their way out of trouble. That was the Shri gift. At least that’s what their dad told them. Despite appearances and often portraying themselves as the class clown and appearing to be trouble, Kai actually did well in school. Kai was naturally smart and finished high school with good enough grades to move away for college and to start their life.
Despite their father wanting them to go into law, Kai applied for history. Being away from their dad and boarding school was good for Kai, for the first time in their life, Kai felt like they could be kai. They moved to California, studying history at UCLA. Being in California was the change Kai had needed, they made friends easily and they finally felt like they could be themselves. No pretending to fit into boarding school, no trying to live up to their father’s expectations. They experimented with clothes, hairstyles and Kai had never felt so free.
Throughout university, kai continued to find themselves, to make friends and they felt good. They dated men and women, and Kai’s passion for history and writing grew. When they turned 21, Kai inherited money from their family and they wanted to do something for themselves. They graduated from UCLA with honours and took the next step of studying a masters. It was exciting and for the first time in their life, making their own decisions. Kai continued to study history, eventually gaining a doctorate and taking a place as a history professor.
Though Kai’s life changed drastically when they fell in love and gave up everything to follow a boy to Southridge just two years ago. Kai gave up their job as a professor in California and when their boyfriend Joe wanted to buy a bar, Kai had the money to help make that happen. They bought Rosen’s and Kai found themselves enjoying working behind a bar. Kai was a natural bartender, good at making the drinks and they fancied themselves as a bit of a Tom Cruise from Cocktail. Kai was also pretty good at listening to people and they enjoyed the busy and loud atmosphere.
Six months ago, Joe left, leaving a note with just the words sorry on it. Kai was heartbroken but they realised, Southridge was for them and they had found their place running a bar. Kai is a caring and affectionate person, they enjoy being around people and they are always there for their friends. Kai usually comes across as a happy person and not many people know that the charming and bright bartender has a doctorate in history.
