Aless has been living in and out of the states since he was about 14 years old. His family migrated to the states due to a lucrative job opportunity that his father took on. Taking that chance ended up being a life changing decision that offered Aless, his siblings, and the rest of the family stability and comfort. 

Adjusting to life in Massachusetts wasn’t too difficult as it was easy for Aless to make friends. He didn’t consider himself overtly popular but he did co-mingle in different groups and hobbies where he managed to dazzle anyone he met. 

During this time he was never pressured into any particular life path, his parents usually encouraged him to ride against the grain and choose what gave him peace and joy. He was known for doodling on napkins in the school cafeteria, eventually he graduated to canvas settings, and soon carried around sketchbooks, studying random features and objects. 

Following the path to art he ended up applying to MCAD with a full scholarship and spent his summers back in random parts of Europe to strike up his muse and inspiration. He knew he wasn’t conventional enough to want to be in gallery work and the history portion of art usually bored him to tears. He wanted to create on a whim every chance he got. 

One day while he was travelling abroad, an acquaintance had asked if he would stick and poke a design onto their skin. Having never done that method before, he somehow agreed and actually ended up not being bad at it. One conversation led to another and he found himself diving into the tattoo world. He specializes in traditional, black and gray, and realism. 

Because of his wanderlust, Aless finds himself travelling both for business and for leisure. When he’s not in Salem he likes to travel back to Italy for his family as well as taking excursions to other cities to experience whatever he can. This includes Paris. 

While in Paris, he did the one thing he’d never subjected himself to before, he found himself entering a whirlwind affair with a woman who had him from the first hello that left her lips. She was timeless to him, a mystery that he found he wanted to crack with a cheshire grin. He’d been so enamored with her that he was willing to risk almost everything for her, but as life would have it, she would serve to be an awful taste of his own medicine. 

It’s been about three years since the relationship ended. He hasn’t set a single step back into Paris (or Maine) since and there are certain parts of the state he can’t bear to go into as a result as well. Reclaiming Salem was a journey for Aless, but every day that he immerses himself into new conversation both to engage in the usual way he does to get past things that tear him apart internally, he won’t admit it openly but he knows he’s entered some form of purgatory living day in and day out the same day down to a science. Wake up, grab a coffee, work, draw, flirt, wine and dine, disappear, cleanse, repeat. 

TL;DR Aless is a chill dude who holds guilt over an incident that happened when he was growing up. He has dual citizenship, adores art and finding inspiration, had his heartbroken, and now cannot commit. He has no problem with flirting and going on dates casually but anything serious is off the table...for now.

Phoebe was born to a drug addict mother who died when they was two, at which point they were placed into foster care for a few years before finally landing on the Winter’s door at the age of the six. She was officially adopted when she was 8, and adores her family more than anything.

Hardcore obsessed with Nancy Drew growing up - there was a brief period where they would only respond to being called ‘Nancy’ and they could turn anything into a mystery to be solved. No one got away with anything without Phoebe finding out about it. (looking at you, dad, stealing cookies and blaming the kids…)

Started exhibiting behavioral issues when she was 12, the most notable of which was stealing. Eventually, she was diagnosed with kleptomania, and through medication and therapy, she’s been able to calm the most intense of her compulsions. But she still has slip ups, especially when confronted with those ‘last minute buys’ sections up by the cash registers.

It was also through therapy that they came to find that they weren’t fully comfortable just being defined by feminine traits. They are, as they say, ‘Nancy Drew, but also a little bit Hardy Boys.’ As such, they use both feminine and neutral pronouns, but don’t particularly care which. 

Her dream was to become an FBI agent, but she was rejected from Quantico due to her kleptomania and subsequent criminal record. So instead they decided to get their license to become a private investigator. It turns out it probably suits them better because they’re very impulsive and their tactics can be… unconventional, at times. Local law enforcement hates her.

Basically, she’s a ball of uncontained energy and anxiety. she is both hyper-competent and a total mess. Fully believes she will one day take down a corrupt multimillion dollar corporation, but still has her mom schedule her doctor’s appointments.

Sophie grew up in Salem, MA, a townie through and through. She grew up in a “perfect” family. Her mother and father would always keep up appearances to make everyone else feel as if they were less than them. Sophie always hated how she grew up, even when she was growing up, although she never showed it. She had always tried to be the perfect daughter, friend, sister, until she couldn’t anymore. Her mother always saw her for her worst, picked at every flaw she had until she couldn’t fight back anymore. Sophie picked up dance and music when she was younger. Her mother wanted her to be a dancer, but instead she would stand in the middle of the floor and hum along to the songs playing. So finally her mother put her in acting lessons and voice lessons, only if she agreed to stay in dance classes as well. As time went on she picked up guitar as well. Sophie grew up extremely in touch with her emotions.  She could never tell you why, but the only time she felt as if she was doing anything right was when she was on a stage or in front of a camera where people could critique her, she felt as if she was perfectly hidden behind them. Making people feel as if they really knew her without her actually having to open up and tell them anything was her specialty.

When she was fifteen her father died of cancer, this sent her whole family into a spiral of not knowing how to keep up appearances or cope. Her mother started drinking, her older brother started hating the world. she rarely saw him after her fathers death. Sophie found herself comforting herself with the eligible boys that would give her attention. She liked the attention, and it was something she found herself to be good at. No one was picking at her flaws, and no one was telling her how sorry they were for her. Despite the family’s appearances being less than great since the death of her father, her mother was still set on being as perfect as possible.

When she was seventeen she found out that she was pregnant, and when she went for the comfort of her family her mother said she would kick her out of the house if she were to go through with the pregnancy. She ended up having an abortion, which is still something she's regretted and hasn't told many people about. She resents her mother for it.

After going off to a local college, and hating it, she went on an audition for a feature film out of the blue and she booked it. She dropped out of college and decided she was going to pursue being an actress. She’s been acting in movies ever since.

Her mother has become "ill”, that’s what the family is telling people, she’s going to start a rehab program because her drinking had gotten out of hand and she was found unconscious outside of her house a week or so ago, and her brother is off pretending he’s not part of the family, so Sophie is stepping up and taking care of her mother for the time being, which is why she’s back in town.

— Born to a rather unconventional household the Zamani’s made a living from traveling, from teaching, from whatever they so pleased and could pick up, toting their child around across the world with them and never staying in one place longer than a couple of years. 

— In her opinion, it was exciting to move and change schools, making new friends wherever she went and reinventing herself along the way. But, much of the novelty had worn off by high school. 

—Most children settled into their friend groups by then, but during the times she wasn’t welcomed by her classmates, Delphine would comfort herself with her books and played in her backyard, living off of the knowledge that if she didn’t like it here, it wouldn’t be long before mom and dad decided that they needed another change of scenery. ‘They’re just jealous’ She’d think to herself. ‘They don’t get to go on adventures like we do.’

The O’Dell family was a pretty comfortable family. The family settled into Salem when Ben was just about to turn five years old, with a younger O’Dell sibling on the way. Ben had one older sibling as well which made him the middle child. Ben was a wild child, he was always running around getting into things he shouldn’t. He kept his mom constantly on her toes. As he grew older that energy turned more aggressive. In middle school, and even high school, he would always find himself getting into fist fights with the other guys. He was constantly in and out of detentions and suspensions. 

Freshman year of high school Ben met Heather. God, was she beautiful. She was his opposite: shy, into art, non-confrontational. Something about her drew Ben in. Ben knew he needed to talk to her, so he signed up for a few art classes. His friends teased him for weeks on end for joining a silly little art class but he didn’t care, it’s what he had to do.

The week of their homecoming dance Ben finally got Heather’s attention. In the clay and ceramics portion of their art class Ben insisted on making bong for his project. Heather thought it was funny and they began talking. By the end of the day Ben finally worked up some courage to ask Heather to their homecoming dance. It was short notice but they had so much fun. By the end of the month they were nearly inseparable, and they remained that way for years to come.

The couple had an interesting dynamic. They would go to parties together, and she would always keep an eye on him to make sure he wouldn’t do anything too crazy. When Heather was with Ben he was good, he never used drugs heavier than weed, never drank too much, and didn’t get into fights. During the parties that Heather didn’t attend he was completely different. He got into any drugs available, and drank until he couldn’t see straight, all while he started fights with random party goers. 

It didn’t take long before Ben was breaking into his parents liquor cabinet before school. He would secretly put shots of whatever he could find into his morning coffee. By lunch he would already be tipsy. Ben was a mess and Heather knew this. She didn’t want to leave him, but she didn’t want to stay with someone who was on a slippery slope to becoming an alcoholic. By the end of their senior year Heather told Ben that he needed to get sober or she would leave. Ben’s love for Heather outweighed his love for liquor. Graduation came, and he was sober. Graduation seemed to mark a turn in their relationship, they were closer than ever, and ready to start their futures. 

Ben wasn’t sure what he wanted to do, he heard that he could make pretty decent money waiting tables so he picked up a job at Rockafellas. It was a crappy job, but management liked him. He was friendly, and surprisingly he cleaned up nicely. Tips were decent enough, and he enjoyed seeing the live entertainment. Plus it passed the time when Heather was away at college. Heather stayed somewhat local for college, she was just 45 minutes away studying to be an art teacher at Lesley University. Ben knew he could see her every weekend, but going from being in school together, to only seeing each other once a week was a challenge. He missed her. 

Once Heather had finished her second year of college she informed Ben that she would be living off campus, in her own apartment in the city, she invited him to stay with her. Ben hopped on the opportunity, and by fall semester he was living in Boston waiting tables, working overtime to help make ends meet. Soon enough they were engaged. Ben popped the question with a paper ring, promising that once he had saved enough he would get her a real ring, with real diamonds. He just knew that Heather was his soulmate. 

The end of that school year Ben and Heather were expecting their first child. It was scary to say the least. They were only 21, and Ben had almost no experience caring for children. Nine months later on March 10th, 2013, right before senior spring break, their baby girl was born. She was perfect. They named her Charlotte Mae O’Dell. Ben was amazed to see Heather graduate college on time. He admired that she bounced back so quickly after having a baby. She was an amazing woman. The two were so in love they rushed to the courthouse to finally tie the knot, and Ben had surprised Heather with a real ring. 

The pair moved back to Salem with their baby girl. Heather finished her masters at Salem State University, and Ben went back to working at Rockafellas. It was hard making ends meet with an additional tiny human, but they made it work in a shoebox apartment. Ben had no idea that the entire time Heather wanted to leave. She had lined up a teaching job at a fancy private school in New Hampshire, nearly two hours north of Salem. Ben felt blindsided when she had filed for a divorce. It was seemingly out of leftfield. Turns out Heather had met another man who also had a job lined up in New Hampshire, except he was going to be an engineer, and he had promised Heather a comfortable life for both her and Charlotte. Ben took the breakup hard. He had a tiny family starting to blossom and soon it was taken away and he was left alone in the once full apartment. 

Life had remained static since Heather left even though she’s been gone for six years now. Ben doesn’t have a full grip on how to be an adult. When he doesn’t have Charlotte with him he goes out to bars and guzzles down beers like water. He has a hard time caring for himself, but he takes care of a cat that his sister gave to him a few years ago when she saw how bad Ben was doing. He wishes he could have Charlotte full time, but he knows she is better off in New Hampshire with her mother. They live in a big house with Heather’s engineer husband. Ben couldn’t afford to give Charlotte the life she deserves as he still works at Rockafellas. Ben makes the drive nearly every weekend to bring Charlotte to Salem to stay with him. He still thinks about what could’ve been if they had stayed a family, but he knows it better not to dwell.

Ginny has a twin brother, Henry, who was always a superstar and is currently playing in the NFL to the surprise of absolutely no one; Ginny, by contrast, was always the quiet one. She was particularly gifted with the violin, which is nowhere near as exciting or flashy as football, so no one really paid it much mind.

Their mother died when they were 3, so the twins were raised by their father. Ginny absolutely adores the man - while to everyone else, she was seen as Henry Carson’s sister, she always felt like she was enough in her father’s eyes. 

But come high school, her father started having memory issues - he’d get confused, occasionally get lost on the way home from work... It happened gradually, but eventually he was diagnosed with early on-set Alzheimer’s. 

It was devastating on multiple fronts, but not least of which because it became apparent one of the twins would have to forego college to stick behind and take care of him. It went without saying that Ginny would make the sacrifice. She gave up her dream of going to Juilliard and stayed in Salem. 

She married her high school boyfriend at the age of 20, mostly because it was what was expected, and he got much better health benefits she could use for her father. She convinced herself at the time it was what she wanted, but it only took a couple years for the glamor to wear off and her to realize how deeply unhappy she was. 

She met a man (maybe a former classmate, maybe a friend of her husbands, idk it’s a WANTED CONNECTION) and started an affair after realizing he ignited a bit of a spark she’d thought had been completely extinguished. This went on in secret for months, but she eventually called it off when... 

Her husband died a month ago in a fishing boat accident. The guilt of her affair has made her a wreck, and while she had no passion for the man she called her husband, he was still an incredibly decent man. 

It’s been a month and surprise! Ginny just found out she’s pregnant. The worst part is, she doesn’t know whether the child belongs to her late husband or her former lover. All she knows is she’s completely fucked.

Orphaned at the tender age of 6 during a family vacation, Deacon didn't have time to remember much of his life or his parents—all he knew was that they were gone and things were going to be very, very different from that point on. growing up in the foster system, Deacon bounced from home to home around Boston and earned himself the label of a "troubled kid", despite having been a good kid in the beginning. but when some families gave him back to the system for being "troubled", no one ever listened to why. from being bullied by other foster kids to the parents themselves, before the age of 10 Deacon had been made painfully aware that he wasn't quite the same as the other kids that got adopted quick and ended up in nice, loving homes; and a lot of the times it came in the form of comments that would stay with him well into his adulthood. 

 the classic "short temper" and lack of restraint when it came to fighting eventually were the first things said about him to potential adoptive families, which only aided in making it harder and harder for his case worker to find him a permanent family. by the time he was 14 he had been through countless foster homes only to be sent back a handful of months later with the same excuses: 'he won't listen, he won't go to school and he fights with my other kids'. of course, no one ever really took the time to see the trauma under all the anger or ask Deacon if he was okay, instead he was scolded and repeatedly reminded that if he did smarten up no one would ever take him in. 

Deacon was convinced that he would spend his days in a boys home until he was old enough to be on his own, but just before his 15th birthday a young woman named Joline Carlisle, who had visited several times throughout that year, had come through the boys home and signed papers to adopt Deacon. at first it seemed like any other placement, but when he got to his new home it was vastly different. from being crammed in apartments with 6 other kids to being the only kid in an actual house with hardwood floors and stainless steel appliances and his own room; the culture shock lasted longer than it ever had coming into a new home. Deacon was convinced that even with all the nice things, he still wouldn't really have parents, but was also wrong about that as well. Joline was kind, loving and patient in everything she did–from helping him with school work, to noticing when he was upset or lashing out over small things and sitting him down to talk out his feelings, it didn't take long for Deacon to let down his walls and let himself connect to his adopted mom and let someone care about him for once. 

being so used to leaving after a few months Deacon still struggled with finding a routine of any sort, but despite it taking a year or two until he settled completely, Joline never gave up on him once. she became the sole reason as to why Deacon went from a 'troubled kid' to someone who felt heard, seen, and loved. once he realized he could stay at the school he was in he began putting in the effort, changing his grades, and reaching out and trying to make friends. when things began to turn around for Deacon academically, all sorts of doors began to open for him—specifically ones for college. even the mention of it had Joline excited for him and encouraging him every step of the way, even going as far as to speak to Deacon's case worker and help set him up to go straight into classes when he finished high school; but he had to keep up his grades and not fight anymore. 

the deal was easy enough for Deacon to keep, focusing on his work and doing everything he could to get what he saw as a free pass to a better life had him more determined than he had ever been before in every aspect. before he knew it, he and Joline were celebrating with happy tears when he received his letter of acceptance into college. he still wasn't sure exactly what he wanted to do, but he knew he would find it once he got to school and started figuring out the classes and what interested him.

in between finding what he wanted to study and picking his classes, Deacon met Andrew—and immediately knew that he was someone Deacon wanted in his life. within a month the two were a couple, and everything felt as if the hard work he put in was finally paying off—but six months into what Deacon thought was becoming a solid relationship came to a screeching halt when Drew up and left school and their relationship without any warning and a shallow explanation of 'having to do the right thing'. 

the abrupt breakup cut Deacon deep, and every chance he could find he made a point of reminding Andrew they had been happy together and whatever he was trying to prove now would just get harder in the long run. but the more Drew pulled away and tried to fix things with his ex girlfriend, the more Deacon began to give up on trying and attempted to move on from the relationship that he felt cheated out of.

by the time things had really ended even with their friendship, Deacon headed home for a visit in an attempt to recollect himself and vent and get the comfort only a mom could give, but when he got there his plans were changed for him very quickly. When Deacon showed up at home, he found Joline bruised and timid, quiet and terrified of her own shadow at the hands of the man she had begun dating not long after Deacon left for collage. like any protective kid, Deacon then proceeded to find his mom a hotel for a few days, send her there and wait in the house until her boyfriend showed up–and what he did to the guy cost him three years in jail and a restraining order; and Deacon took the sentence with a smile. 

When he got out of jail he decided to stay with Joline for a few months and get back on his feet before he moved out to New York, finding himself a mechanic job and making himself good money stripping cars and rebuilding them; all the while searching for any Biological family while he was there. he didn't make much progress at first, having only his fathers name to go off of, but after being there a year he got a hold of the name of a potential uncle on his dad's side, but never took the leap to try and meet him or any family before the shop he worked in was busted and he went down with everyone involved, spending another four years in jail. 

by the time he got out again and contacted his mom, he found out she had moved back to Massachusetts and had settled in Salem and insisted he stay with her until he found himself a place to live. he's been out of jail and living with her for about a month, and just started a job as an assistant that he hopes will help get him his own place soon. he's still determined to meet his biological family in some way but has refrained from it thanks to his criminal record as well as not wanting to potentially upset his adopted mom; but he keeps his uncles information tucked away in his wallet for when he's ready to finally reach out.

maybe the son or daughter of the guy Deacon beat for hitting his mom, there's a LOT of potential there 

Andrew (his collage ex-boyfriend who broke up with Deacon to raise his kid with his ex, name is absolutely negotiable! ) 

anyone from his biological family that he could potentially reconnect with in whatever way, good, bad, in the middle, anything would be amazing! 

high school exes, flings that happened while he was in NYC 

anyone he may have worked with in the mechanics shop in NY, maybe someone he took the blame for who feels like they owe him for not ratting them out
