quick sketch 🤲
just finished the latest season of She Ra and i think my soul ascended to the ethereal plane
I had a dream where Brooklyn 99 and she ra were mashed together and naturally Rosa Diaz was Catra and jake was giving her advice on how to get adore back and I think my subconscious is onto something
Wassup peeps I’m listening to Love of My Life by Queen and thinking about Catradora, especially from Catra's POV
G'day to y’all
glimmer i love you
also where is troye so i can kick his ass
Valve DI anyone - Part II
Evening.
Just thought I'd post a quick progress report. It fired up just fine, passed signal but also had a fair bit of hum. Using my powers of deduction, guesswork, I surmised that it would be a poor grounding scheme at fault. I think I mentioned that in my previous post.
Well I was right. Fnar fnar fnar.
I added one ground wire - that I was sure I was supposed to add - and BINGO. Lovely sound bass DI. I'm not going to bother with shielded cabling as it's dead quiet now already.
Pics:
Now if anyone reading this has ever tried to capture the glow of vacuum tubes with a camera, I'm sure they appreciate that second image.
One working Dual-stage SRPP Valve DI? Yup. Sounds great too, AND if my initial tests are proven correct a Sansamp esq. pedal in front of it works really well.
Cheers!
P.S. 101 posts? I need to get out more.
edit: 04/07/13 - Clearing my work PC I stumbled across this:
See the incompatible cases behind, and then the correct one. Turns out it really is worth planning things like this in Sketchup.
Valve DI anyone
Yeah yeah. I know its been a long time.
So what to do? How about finish something?
A seemingly long time ago I started a Valve-DI build. I combined it with an Alembic Preamp, changed my mind and decided to make it as a carry-box type thing.
The proto looked like this:
Then I needed to move it into one of these:
Using one of these (from Razorlab):
And.... Begin....
Try a loose fit to make sure it all goes in nicely:
Make sure the power is done PROPERLY. ALWAYS MAKE SURE! Commit to a layout and proceed!:
Take a photo if you know you'll forget how the pots are wired:
And DONE?:
Time to power test (already done the basic supply checks BTW) with all the components in. Using an RCD and rubber gloves, eye protection, life insurance and a massive slice of good luck:
Dunno if you can see, but she be glowin'. I'll give it a quick signal test but I need to do a bit more wiring before I'll fully close her up:
check grounding scheme
use shielded cabling for signal
see if there is a 'good' gain staging methodology to use
All in all though - it's cool to be building/faffing with stuff again - and i'm sure it'll sound great. I'm currently thinking I'll clone a Sansamp of some description and double DI the bass: Neve-> LA4 and Sansamp->SRPP and see how she sounds.
Given how good the Neve sounds going into the LA4 it'll just be the icing on the cake if its a go-er!
Night!
