So i think part of the reason why there isn’t nearly as much LGBT representation in things like video games, movies, and tv, is BECAUSE we put so much pressure on it being a rare thing. Now obviously this is not the ENTIRE reason, but i think it does have a part to play. Because think of it like this. You’re a writer, you’re a good person and would love to give people what they want. Problem is, if you fuck up the representation of a gay, trans, or whatever have you person. you’re going to have a shit ton of people coming at you with pitch forks. remember how angry people got to samus’ personality in metroid other M? That same reaction will happen if you fuck up the representation of an LGBT member. Its a lot safer from a business prospective to write stories about white cis people because nobody will look at it with a magnifying glass, nobody will shout and rage that it was represented poorly because nobody gives a fuck. The point is the more you treat LGBT people in media as a big deal, the more company’s and writers are to NOT put them in said media. Cause business isn’t about whats right or morals, its about safe money. I personally believe that if we want to see more LGBT people in media we should treat it like its no big deal. Like its a NORMAL thing. Cause I think it is tbh, so the character is trans or gay, that's neat. I personally think that should be a reaction to try to get people to put more gay and trans people into stories. Just keep in mind, from a business prospective, why would you green light a story that's risky, might get you MASSIVE consumer backlash, may or may not be marketed towards a minority anyway, and on its own might be a commercial failure, OR you can do something that's safe, marketed towards a much larger audience, and the only worry is if its commercially successful, like any other product
