I'm like 90% sure they named Pipit that because they put him in Yellow and there's a Pipit (bird) that is yellow and looks like it's wearing the tunic
And the hair. The boy was designed after the bird.

In Skyward Sword, the Hylian’s didn’t have access to mining, so their only metals would have been the leftovers from before Hylia raised Skyloft into the sky. Metals would have been extremely rare and important, and most metals were used to create swords and shields for the knights. Which is why I think Pipit is more important to the Skyloftian community than the game lets on. Pipit is wearing chainmail, which is made out of metal. Metal, which I have established is rare. So clearly Pipit is an important person, to be allowed CHAINMAIL. Add in the fact that Pipit won the Wing Ceremony the year before Link, so he is clearly skilled and has a sailcloth. Pipit has only just finished his senior year in knight training, but he has special armor that his instructors don’t? He’s definitely been set apart. I think Pipit is very close to his loftwing, as evidenced by his name being a species of bird. Now, this could mean nothing, but it probably isn’t just a coincidence. I believe that Pipit really likes birds. Now why is this important? I believe that Pipit’s bond with his loftwing is like Link’s bond with his, stronger than most, and special. When you consider that loftwings were essentially a gift from Hylia, I think it is at least somewhat logical to presume that those with special bonds are blessed by the goddess. Now, if Pipit is such an amazing knight, the chosen representative of the hero in the Wing Ceremony, and blessed by the goddess, that is incredible! Especially since he accomplished that without a father, and being the sole provider for himself and his mother. Now, onto my next point. The master sword and the demon sword. (that’s what I call Ghirahim) So, I think Ghirahim was created to balance out Fi. I think the Golden Goddesses have to focus on keeping the balance quite a lot, which is why the Triforce of Power is often on Evil’s side. Therefore, it is not farfetched to believe that Ghirahim balances Fi. Now, why am I bringing them up when this is about Pipit? Well, in order to wield Fi, you have to a) be the hero, and b) be pure of heart. In order to make the hero pure of heart, Fi cleanses them of evil and creates a dark version of them which they will have to defeat. They can wield the sword without defeating their dark self, but they will have to defeat it at some point. Now, the very first hero, the one before Skyward Sword, did not have to fight an evil version of him. (I know it seems I’m getting off track, but I’m not) Because the first hero was already pure of heart, as proven by his actions and behaviors, even toward those who wronged him, and his desire to save them. Now, his spirit became the Hero’s Spirit. The spirit that is passed down through the heroes. So every one of his reincarnations may or may not have had to fight their dark self, in order to strengthen the Hero’s Spirit, which is supposed to be pure of heart. Now, who do we know and love who is very pure of heart, proved by his actions toward the one who wrongs him, and his desire to always help whenever he can, often volunteering/overworking himself for his mom? Pipit! Now, Pipit is not the hero, and cannot hold the master sword without consequences. But you know what other powerful sword is out there that is needed to balance out the master sword? The demon sword! I think the initiation of ‘prove yourself good enough for my blade’ for the demon sword will probably be something more like ‘kill a living being with my blade’ and not ‘I’m gonna purge the evil out of you exorcism style good luck’. And my last point, the Triforce. Now, Skyward Sword Link gains the whole Triforce and uses it to defeat Demise. BUT! In later incarnations, the Hero almost always has the Triforce of Courage, and the Princess the Triforce of Wisdom, and Ganon the Triforce of Power. So, after Link used the Triforce, what happened? We know the power of Hylia is passed down through Zelda’s bloodline, so Zelda must have obtained the Triforce of Wisdom after the fight. We can presume Link has the Triforce of Courage, and that leaves the Triforce of Power. Where did it go? It could have gone to Impa, or Groose, but it might have gone to Pipit. Now, Groose makes more sense for it, since he does seem by his build to be a strong, heavy hitter type fighter. And Pipit does seem more light on his feet, like a bird. But I think the Golden Goddesses choose where the Triforce goes, and I think they would look at Groose and just say ‘He’s not ready for a Triforce.’ So then why would that give it to Pipit? Well, I have more thoughts. Hypothetically if Link were to die, and not save Zelda, who would be most likely chosen to take his place? Pipit. Simply because he is pure of heart and courageous and all that crap. Fledge wasn’t even in the Ceremony, so he still needs time to learn, Groose was not the right fit, and neither were Cawlin, Strich, or Karane. The closest you can get to Link without being Link is Pipit, especially since he is so skilled. And if Pipit were to be chosen, and save Zelda, he would gain the Triforce of Courage. He wouldn’t be reincarnated though, since Link was already chosen to be reincarnated by Hylia when the first Link defeated Demise, before Skyward Sword. IN CONCLUSION, we have established that Pipit is a very skilled swordsman and knight, he is dedicated, he won the Wing Ceremony, he was chosen to represent the first hero in the Wing Ceremony, he is pure of heart, self-sacrificial, and incredibly caring. I believe that if the Golden Goddesses needed someone to hold the Triforce of Power, he would have been their choice. I believe that if someone needed to wield the demon sword, he would have been chosen. I believe that if Link died, he would have been second on the list of candidates. And I believe that Pipit is a precious loving cinnamon roll who deserves the world and a little bit of family therapy to heal his relationship with his mom and their unresolved problems about his nonexistent dad. PIPIT IS MY SON AND I LOVE HIM! PIPIT SUPREMACY! PIPIT SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN HYRULE WARRIORS NOT AGITHA! BIRD BOY IS MY FAVORITE!
Another redraw. This time of my poor exhausted collage student knight in training who works night shifts so he can pay for his classes, all the while his mother keeps spending the money to have their house cleaned.
I loved Pipit.
