I'm still not over the fact that the comic set up this canon where starscream has like tons of ppl who look exactly like him and gives it a surprisingly reasonable in-universe explanation and then the latest comic fucking goes "hey yknow how thundercracker and skywarp also look like starscream? Its bc he had them rebuild themselves to resemble him so he could avoid arrest for tax fraud"

Yeah anyway the bottom line is if i have to see "starscream" "me.gatr.on" and "mutual abuse" in a sentence one more time I think ill have a conniption

Im sorry i keep talking about star.scre.am and how me.ga.tron treats him but theres just...theres just so much I want, need, to get off my chest, and some of its raw and personal, some of its personal but through a fictional filter, some of its my beliefs influenced by this personal stuff and how it relates to this fiction, and theres just so much as a fandom I feel we dont talk about, or dont talk about enough or talk about well. And i know its not an easy subject and i know its not clear cut but I just having a burning desire to read, listen to, say something about it

What i was trying to say that last time around (but kinda failed in doing so) is that ppl who want to characterize starscream as weak and pathetic and then get mad when ppl like...write him as vulnerable in a sympathetic way are super transparent in the fact that they're actually ok with him being vulnerable but only if its for audience amusement rather than audience sympathy and that's like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ppl who desperately want starscream to be a 2 dimensional unlikable egotistical selfish asshole with 100% confidence in whatever he does and no ability to connect with or care about anyone, and thinks anyone who thinks even a little bit contrarily is making shit up to woobify him, and at the same time want to paint him as a clingy pathetic insecure loser who constatly needs ppl to love and praise him and is worthy of mockery for it cant fucking have it both ways lmfao

I do have to agree that fighting about tf characters characterizations (i mean its fucking transformers), esp when their writers vary between episodes or comics and have no head creator to reign it in or when whomever in charge doesnt seem to care is mostly moot anyway, esp when it comes to someone like sta.rscr.eam who NO ONE ever seems to completely agree on the characterization of (and who's original characterization [bc yknow he was like one of the few who HAD one in g1] was chaotic and ridiculous and ott), even in a fandom that largely all collectively decided on a suprisingly cohesive fanon lore including characterizations for side characters who appeared for 0.2 seconds in canon

I don't change my stances on what i think writers could be doing better or what things in the fandom I think are annoying or shitty, but i will absolutely conceed to how silly it is to fight about True Characterization(tm) when the writer who wrote one issue or episode clearly completely disagrees with the one who wrote the last issue or episode and its all taking place in what amounts to a slightly more well-polished pulp novella series or childrens cartoon that happens to net an adult veiwership sometimes

Ok but real talk, were we not supposed to be rooting for flashback starscream when we found out he was a con artist who swindled rich ppl and the evil government that subjugated him bc...?
