Rodimus: *was forced into a situation where he had to nuke his entire hometown when he was still young, and that was only the first fucked up decision hes had to make*

Rodimus: *acts kinda silly and excitable and youthful for some reason and immediately after the war wanted to get away from cybertron and the fallout of wartime and just chill for some reason and unlike some people (*cough* optimus prime) invited anyone else who needed the same to come with him*

Rodimus: *insists they stop to help people along the way; 100% willing to sacrifice himself at any given moment*

Fandom: Rodimus is a selfish idiot who never gets useful stuff done

Ppl: getaway doesnt deserve redemption so much as having to face the victims of his crimes

Me, wondering how these are mutually exlcusive, and also wondering why getaway has to do all that when Megatron (in merely one small example of this) not only never had to even apologize to rodimus for literally murdering him, but also proceeded to steal his job, his ship, his friends, and mock, criticize, and yell at him every time they were in a room together, and yet is still beloved by fans and considered redeemed:

I love it, getaway's Career of Evil has lasted all of 5 minutes and consists of killing like 3 named characters, breaking a cute character's heart, and hijacking someones space van and yet the fandom sees him as worse than the literal devil (that's not an exaggeration either, Actual Transformers Satan is angling to eat the entire comic and everyone hates him less than getaway)

I think at its core the uh differing viewpoints in the fandom is less "is starscream a good or bad person" or "is what starscream does in general ok" bc those are pretty easy to answer, those are pretty well agreed upon actually. I think what fans don't agree on is whether or not starscream deserves what megatron does to him, if we can consider their relationship on equal footing - does starscream backstab megatron bc hes a piece of shit and the beatings he receives are justified, almost nice considering the alternative, or does starscream do what he does because of his mistreatment, or some other take on the situation, and does it matter - which is a lot easier to debate and a lot harder to agree on

I don't mean to offend anyone and idc if you hate getaway (tho I have yet to hear anyone list reasons i personally would like...actually include on the Why Getaway Sucks List, which is weird to me) but can ppl stop saying they can excuse uhhhhhh genocide when comparing him to other villains? Specifically Tyrest, who's not portrayed even a little sympathetically, not redeemed in anyway, and personally tried to commit ethnic cleansing on his own species because he was a violent bigot???? (The guy who actually tortured Getaway and tried to kill him alongside others cold constructed btw, which kinda just adds insult to injury)

Real talk tho I cant stand Starfire (romantic or as a brotp) that is either a woefully unbalanced dynamic or with starscream as an unrecognizably different person pre-war like....untouched by certian trauma and dysfunction sure, fine, but I hate the idea starscream had to be completely different from his canon self for skyfire to have loved him

I'm still not over the fact that the comic set up this canon where starscream has like tons of ppl who look exactly like him and gives it a surprisingly reasonable in-universe explanation and then the latest comic fucking goes "hey yknow how thundercracker and skywarp also look like starscream? Its bc he had them rebuild themselves to resemble him so he could avoid arrest for tax fraud"
