Random tangent while I power through an ask: what's up with the save points in the Great Maze?
They're your only break while in the Great Maze and, as stated by the dojo, your base of operations. You go to the rotating Smash logo and heal up; this is one of the only times you get to see the Smash Bros logo during SSE, and quite possibly the only instance of it if you don't count items like the bumper or trophies/trophy stand. There's a giant paper-like tear in the sky leading to actual Subspace. The yellow rest areas have a weird greenish-yellow tint while the pink rest areas seemingly lack a tint, or the tint is much less noticeable at least.
Anyone else notice how huge the moon looks in Smash sometimes?
I know the Temple of Light subarea in the Light Realm is most likely in part a Kid Icarus reference (given the music is from KI:U + the Mimicutie spirit and Pit being found in this area). But I think it's worth mentioning that the shape of the structure where the altar is gets referenced by Galeem during his Intimidation attack.
The end area of World of Light
Ya know, this one?
This is a regular degular city in the world of trophies.
Why?
Because of the building visible, but also because it feels nice to imagine after traveling this far, you can start seeing signs of the world being restored.

Sending my personal headcanons for Tabuu/Subspace because why not
Tabuu and Subspace are one and the same; a living, breathing void dimension that lies in between every universe in the multiverse. Tabuu is less of a person and more of Subspace's consciousness given form. Basically Subspace is to the multiverse what outer space is to Earth, except it's alive and the dimension itself is the body and Tabuu is the mind/soul. Lonely and spiteful, forced to watch over the universes it borders while unable to interfere. Tabuu initially planned to bring more than just the World of Trophies into Subspace, but started there despite knowing it would have to go up against some of the multiverse’s greatest heroes and multiple god killers because the World of Trophies has connections to other universes and his victory there would mean easy access to every universe it’s connected to. A very high risk, high reward plan. Speaks like Fecto Forgo {broken English + big words}, if that makes any sense.

I’ve always thought of SSB64 being a frat house situation for the cast. All of them having to share the kitchen, bathrooms, and amenities. And collectively dealing with sitcom-esque situations occurring daily with a group small enough for it to usually affect everyone.
Oh absolutely it is. Amenities in Smash have gotten noticeably grander with each new game so it wouldn't surprise me if Smash 64 had humble beginnings even outside of designated battle areas.
Dunno how to be coherent abt this rn but. The entire Red + Lucas section spanning from The Ruined Zoo up to the Ruins/Ruined Hall. Why is that there. What's up with that
