December Drabble - Sans

Waking up to unexpected snow on the ground was your favorite early Gyftmas present. People generally looked at you like you had two heads every time you admitted you actually enjoyed the snow, but it’s never bothered you. There was something so alluring about how sparkly it looks when it’s fresh. You needed to get outside immediately, but you didn’t want to waste the moment by yourself, so who better to drag outside with you than Sans.
Waking him up, however, was no easy feat.
“it’s just snow?” Sans mumbled grogily.
He’s sitting up on the side of his bed rubbing his eye sockets, blue sweat pants practically blending into the blanket beneath him, his wrinkled white tank top loosely on his frame. You’d almost feel bad for waking him up so early if you hadn’t watched him sleep for half the day yesterday.
“We can go to Grillby’s,” you raised an eyebrow. “On me.”
“now we’re talking.”
Putting on your boots and jacket before Sans even made it downstairs was an awful idea. You were sweating buckets.
“i still don’t get why you're so excited about snow.” Sans comments, finally coming down the carpeted stairs. Now properly dressed in his usual blue and yellow hoodie.
“Maybe you just need some more whimsy in your life,” you say, crossing your arms.
“i have magic, that’s pretty whimsical.” He says, making his way to the front door.
“Finally.” You throw your hands up in celebration.
“not yet, i’m still bare toed.”
You groan. Can he be any slower?
“Hurry up, we gotta get out there before the sun is done rising!” you whine.
“i’m starting to see why you and paps get along so well.”
After several excruciating seconds of waiting, he finally stands up, ready to go outside. You eagerly yank the door open, immediately getting hit by the chill. You take a deep breath of the cold air, something about it was always so refreshing.
Making your way to the steps of the deck, you notice a suspicious particular shine to them. It’s ice. You hold onto the deck railing just to make sure you don’t end up falling flat on your face. You hear the front door being pulled shut as your feet safely touch the soft snowy ground.
“Careful it’s slip-”
Before you can finish your warning Sans is already tumbling down the front steps. He lands flat in your arms. He doesn’t move for a second, he just lays there defeated in your hold, before lifting his skull.
“i guess i really fell for you.”
You had half the mind to toss him into the snow, but you resist the urge and giggle. He uses you as support as you help him get to his feet.
“alright, to grillbys…” Sans trails off, “wow.”
Your eyes follow his gaze out onto the open field in front of your home. Snow coated everything as far as you can see. The rising sun casted a pinkish hue on everything, making it almost look dream-like.
“Do you get it now?” you ask softly.
A comfortable silence settles between you two, as you take in every detail of the view in front of you. Despite the cold, the warmth the sun produced felt nice on your face, you wonder for a moment if Sans can feel it too.
“i think so.”
