Of all the places Ferdinand didn't expect to be, it was the retainer's quarters attached to the Grand Master bedroom of the Imperial palace. But, he was in charge of Enbarr for the time being, and thus the palace.
He had avoided this room for a long time. It had been stripped shortly after the Alliance took the capitol, difusing traps and tucking away any possible secrets, but the place, barren as it was, still felt like him, somehow. But time ticked onwards, and now here he was, looking over the renovations to the space as part of the redressing of the palace as a whole.
One of his staff was in the Grand Master in case he needed anything, but in the retainer's quarters, he was alone. Letting out an exasperated sigh, he flopped onto the modest bed.
It smelled like linen. Nothing else.
Turning onto his back, he stared at the molding on the ceiling. His life truly seemed absurd sometimes. He wasn't sure what he felt about it.
He closed his eyes. Breathed deep. The moment would pass, and he would leave this room, and the day would continue on as if nothing had happened.
