HE HAS TO ADMIT : HE’S GOTTEN bored half an hour through. perhaps he sticks around out of pure reflex ; perhaps he just wants to be alone. still , he offers adelaide a grin all the same. fur cloak is long discarded , dropped to the floor in preference of fresh air , & he makes no move to pick it up for modesty as he says , “ if it meant waiting for you , then i’d say freezing out here was worth it , ” he teases , half hearted & warm. he’s … not lying , not really. perhaps his slip of honestly is what makes him backtrack , lean his forearms on the balcony edge. “ i just tired of it all , really. needed to take a break. ”
a pause. then hesitantly , he adds on : “ stay with me for a bit ? i promise it’ll be worth your while , adel. ”
❛ you’re saying you knew i’d come, then? well! i’d no idea you counted clairvoyance among your many boasted talents, sylvain ----. ❜ but she cannot help the way that the smile breaks out on her features, the way she herself erupts in soft laughter the moment his name rolls off of her tongue. it’s all in jest, of course, and so perhaps it’s the appropriate response to her commentary after all -- yet, all the same, adelaide finds she’s a bit remiss in light of the fact that she could not keep straight-faced / straight-laced(?) for a moment longer. that warmth of his, and the smile that comes to him so easily; it’s dangerously infectious, is what it is. in the face of such a beautiful night, and such welcoming company, the heir to house thieme could almost entirely forget the anxiety which propelled her to the balcony to begin with. one gloved hand raises to cover her mouth as she continues, eyes still alight. ❛ in any event, i think it’s safe to say that we share the same sentiment. the festivities are lovely, but after too long, i began to feel, ah -- a bit crowded-in. ❜
to say the least. in any event, it hardly mattered; not in the face of sylvain’s almost shy request, which comes to her as something of a shock. so much so that she feels the heat rise immediately to flush her features ( worth your while -- only sylvain jose gautier! ), and as lips part to speak, she finds herself all but praying that in the pale light of the moon, the tint in her cheeks will go wholly unnoticed. ❛ how will you do that, i wonder? ❜ but she’s already taking a step forward, away from the noise of the grand hall and towards his form instead. she may not say it, but it’s clear: yes, i’ll stay.
