Eye of the storm
Summary: Where Sasuke realizes that he’s a lucky man.

Every year, in the middle of July, almost in the middle of an impossible heat wave, Konoha gets hit by the Monsoon Winds—which means, thunderstorms. They rage and roar and flash across the sky, blow away the humidity and pour, depending on the precipitation, for hours, sometimes even a day or two.
Every sane person knows to stay out of a thunderstorm. It appeared to Sasuke, that his wife and child, were not apparently very sane people. For the two of them ran around in the backyard, chasing each other, shrieking with laughter.
Their backyard was not small, neither was it very large. It was just enough—enough to dry off the laundry, enough for a small vegetable patch, enough for a still adolescent mango tree in the corner. But not, he observed large enough to support two people shoving and running and playing with each other, especially when one of them was a full grown adult.
As the thunder rumbled and lightening flashed, he watched as the two of them finally stopped to catch their breath. Sakura was holding Sarada to her chest, and in that moment it him hard in the chest, just how lucky he had been to have her.
“Those who love you,” she had told him once, “are not fooled by the mistakes you have made, or the dark images you hold about yourself. They remember your beauty when you feel ugly, your wholeness when you’re broken, your innocence when you feel guilty, and your purpose when you are confused.” She had smiled at him then, with such unmitigated adoration, such overwhelming love, her eyes had shone with it.
His heart stuttered when she suddenly called out to him. “Sasuke-kuuun!”
He raised his hand to acknowledge her. “C’mon! It’s a summer rain! Play with us!”
He shook his head at her. No way was he getting drenched in that downpour. “Papa!” Sarada called out, “Don’t be a bore!”
The two of them laughed at his expense, and he felt a twitch of a smile take a hold of his lips. He was almost taken aback when they threw themselves at him, drenched and dripping, shaking with happy laughter, holding on to him for dear life. His eyes fluttered in surprise, but he didn’t push them away. And as the lightening flashed, and the thunder rumbled again, he wound his arm around them, and held on tight.

“We should get out before the heat gets to us.” Kakashi reasons looking lazily over at his two male students. Naruto shrugs his shoulders while Sasuke just sinks deeper into the water not paying the gray haired ninja any attention. “You guys heard me?”
“Fine, it’s not like this is any fun.” Naruto replies his lips setting into a pout. “You know with Sakura being hidden by that damn wall.” The blonde turns to shoot the partition dividing the baths a dirty look.
Kakashi can’t find it in him to blame him and his disappointment, a mixed bath would have been way more enjoyable, that’s something all male members of Team 7 can agree on.
“Let’s go grab a bite to eat.” Naruto declares as he turns to Sasuke who is silent, even more than usual. “You listening teme, aren’t you hungry?”
Sasuke’s gaze turns to Naruto. “Aa.” He breathes before submerging once again into the water and making bubbles with his mouth. Naruto and Kakashi both shared a look of amusement at Sasuke’s expense.
Sasuke only stopped his foolishness as he heard a very distinct voice from the other side of the partition. It was unmistakably Sakura. “I should probably get out soon.” She groans and he turns to glare at the wall between them quickly taking a stand from the water.
“My face is probably as red as a tomato.” Sasuke only heard the last word in her sentence and all his mind could coherently put together is that he was hungry, starving, and there was a tomato somewhere. A ripe, red, juicy, and delicious tomato waiting just for him to sink his teeth into.
Tomato.
He doesn’t understand why Naruto is yelling at him the way he is as he climbs up the partition, wasn’t he the one that said they should grab a bite to eat?
To-ma-to.
And he certainly doesn’t understand why Sakura looks so in shock. “What the hell are you doing?” He didn’t deem her question important enough to answer, wasn’t it obvious?
“Sasuke-kun!” She yells, slightly snapping him out of his thoughts, at least enough for him to actually look at her. “You shouldn’t be here.” She tells him, hiding beneath the water and covering herself as much as possible, blushing nine shades of red.
“But why? You look good enough to eat.”

Day 14

Summary: One can have a hunger for food and companionship, and Sakura Haruno is currently craving both thanks to her video game obsessed boyfriend. Will she ever be able to achieve both without making her boyfriend upset?
Disclaimer: Naruto and the other characters are not mine, only the plot is.
Enjoy~
"Sasukeeee, I'm hungry." A pink hair girls whines as she leans her head on the shoulder of the boy sitting next to her on the couch they share. A teenage boy who is currently muttering under his breath and focusing on the tv in front of him as his hands move confidently over a video game controller.
"Then go get food from the kitchen." The boy replies while his eyes stay glued on the t.v.
"I can't get food from you're kitchen! I don't live here, so I have no right to go and take food from your kitchen." The girls argues as her head remains on his shoulder, even as it occasionally moves and bumps her head.
The boy, Sasuke, doesn't even seem to have heard the girl's last attempt to get him to quit his game and get her food as he continues to press buttons on his controller. His mind solely focused on what is in front of him and not what is laying on his shoulder. Sasuke hears her mutter a certain f-word in an annoyed tone, but Sasuke's only reply is a smirk obscured to her by his shoulder.
"You're a horrible boyfriend." Sasuke sighs as he realizes he is getting closer to submitting to her demand of hunger and knows he cannot give in since she is just being lazy.
"We've been dating for two years, and we've known each other for thirteen. I think you can go and get your own food from my kitchen with no one getting offended, Sakura." The girl, Sakura, makes no response to Sasuke's comment. In fact, Sasuke believes he's won since she has nothing to say in response to his words. Of course, Sakura being reminded of knowing Sasuke for so long, has lead to her being quiet so she can analyze what her next move should be. If only Sasuke could realize his mistake.
"If you go and get me food, you can also grab yourself a tomato." Sakura finally lifts her head up and puts her chin on his shoulder instead; she stares straight at the side of his face and watches as he glances over at her.
Sasuke feels Sakura shift on his shoulder and notices she starts starring at him, trying to force and tempt him to go and get her some food and himself a tomato. Sasuke is on to her tactics though, and only gives her a glance out of his peripheral vision before turning back to his game on the t.v. Both the actions piss off the pink-haired girl on his shoulder though, and one would think he knows better. Because a second later-before he even realizes it-Sakura is off his shoulder and standing beside the tv stand with the cord to his game system in one of her hands while the other hand of hers holds his controller.
"Sakuraaa." Sasuke half growls and whines as he watches his girlfriend tug at the cord a little, threatening to pull the whole thing out at any second. With the controller, Sasuke could save his spot in the game and have no worries about losing his progress since last time, but since Sakura has his controller(which she was kind enough to use to pause his game for the moment) Sasuke has to worry about losing his current advancement in the game if Sakura pulls the cord out of the outlet.
"I'm hungry." And I'm annoyed, Sasuke thinks. However, he keeps his opinion to himself and weighs the options he has inside his head as Sakura keeps tugging at the cord and threatening his imminent demise.
Sasuke sighs as he realizes he has only one option, because his girlfriend is too stubborn and immune to his threats.
"You win. I'll go get your food." Sasuke says while standing up and admitting defeat. He imagines he could surprise attack her and get his controller back and get her hand off the cord, but he imagines something will probably end up broken if he tries. Be it one of the numerous vases on the t.v. stand or the t.v. itself; it wouldn't be the first time a little tiff between the two ended in something broken.
Sakura smiles and shouts a 'yay' as Sasuke starts walking to the kitchen, completely absorbed in how he'll get her back later. Absorbed so much that he doesn't hear the game screen changing and the system shutting down; no, he only hears something besides his thoughts when loud thuds echo in the room. Thuds that are stemming from a pink-haired girl bouncing on the hard wood floors as she makes her way over to her boyfriend. Even though Sasuke could hear the thuds of Sakura destroying his families floor, he didn't register the noise before she made it over to him and clutched his hand in her" s.
"What are you doing?" Sasuke questions as he stops his trek to the kitchen to address his girlfriend who held his game hostage so he would get her food. There is definitely some irritation in his words, but she doesn't seem to notice since she gives him a big smile and leans on his arm a bit.
"I'm going with you." Sasuke's anger is finally released, completely bothered by how his girlfriend is acting.
"After you did all that bitchy stuff a while back to get me to go and grab food for you lazy ass!" Sasuke had pulled his hand out of hers before he started ranting, so he could directly face her as he finally let out his frustration. His eyes are slitted at her and his hands are fists to try and keep himself calm enough to not walk out of the room and tell her to leave for the day.
Sakura is stunned by Sasuke's sudden anger at her, and she takes a step back as he unconsciously shifts his body to over tower her. His anger scares her a bit; she's seen him angry before, but never so much over something trivial. She figured he would be a bit annoyed with her, but she never thought he would be furious. A bit confused and scared, tears start to form in Sakura's eyes, and she tilts her head down to try and hide them as she gives her explanation.
"I just wanted... I just wanted to spend some time with you, and I figured eating together would be the only way for you to actually spend time with me. Ever since you got that video game a couple of weeks ago you haven't done anything but play it. I mean, you ask me to come over to hang with you, and you just keep playing the game while I sit next to you. I don't mind that you play the game, I don't mind just sitting next to you while you play it, but I don't want that to be all that we do! I can't talk to you about my day or anything since you don't listen, and I don't want that to be what we become! When I said I was hungry I meant it both figuratively and literally! I want food, but I also want for us to actually spend time with each other."
Tears had started to stream out of Sakura's eyes as she had started talking, and now they are flowing down her cheeks after letting out her what has been on her mind for the last few days. Sasuke's glare had dropped halfway through Sakura's spiel, and now his eyes are sporting a softer look as he stares at his crying girlfriend before he pulls her into a hug and places his head on hers.
Sakura's tears are still falling even as her face is buried in Sasuke's comforting chest, but they start to lessen in quantity as Sasuke continues to hold her. He even rubs her back a little, and Sakura can feel her heart rate slowing down.
Sasuke waits until he can feel Sakura's breathing even out before he pulls back a little. Separating them only enough for him to be able to look into the puffy, red eyes of his girlfriend. He silently hits himself over the head for making her cry and have all those thoughts in her head.
"I'm sorry, Sakura. I have been obsessed with my game lately, and I honestly cannot say I know anything about your life right now, because as you said, we haven't really talked lately." Sasuke admits as he watches Sakura wipe her eyes and give him a small smile.
"I'll forgive you if you eat some ice cream with me." Sakura says while also giving a sniffle.
"I'll eat with you, but I'm having a tomato. I've gotten a bit hungry myself after all this, so maybe tomato soup." Sasuke replies with a gentle smile to his girlfriend while realizing the reason he may have been so peeved is because of his hunger he is only detecting now.
"Fine, my tomato loving boyfriend." Sakura vocalizes while pulling Sasuke towards the kitchen with vigor. She's ready to for an actual conversation between, because she has missed talking to her boyfriend and best friend.
Bonus(This scene references my story from Day 9: Trauma)
"Remember when we were younger and we had a fight about tomatoes and ice cream after we played medic?" Sakura inquires as she pops another scoop of ice cream in her mouth while watching her boyfriend pluck a tomato slice of his plate and toss it in his mouth.
"Which time?" Sasuke calls for, remembering such an event happening more than once in their past.
"The one that both our moms have on their phones!" Sakura responds with glee, not admitting she also has the video on her phone and watches it when she needs a laugh.
"So the time you also gave me a rug burn that wouldn't let me lay on my back for a week?" Sasuke throws back at her while finishing his last tomato slice.
"Six days you wuss." Sakura challenges, already knowing where this conversation is heading.
"It was seven days, and I'm not the one who cried when the fish died in that movie we watched not too long ago."
"Six days! And how could you not cry, it was so sad." Sakura yells at her boyfriend as she starts to lean over the table.
"It was a fish in the background. It only died to represent how much time had passed in the movie's time skip!" Sasuke has mirrored Sakura's actions, and now he to, is moving his body forward to hover over the table in order to meet Sakura face to face.
"It was a living creature which died!"
"The movie was animated! The fish was never alive!"
"Six days!" Sakura challenges as she now has her knees on her chair to meet Sasuke's face halfway across the table.
"Ha! You're back to that because you know I'm right!" Sasuke declares as he points his finger at a frustrated Sakura.
"Cause this is the main issue and I'm right!" Sakura remarks as she leans back onto her chair and crosses her arms with a smug look on her face. Sasuke gives her a little scowl as he too leans back and stands up while putting his palms flat on the table.
"Nu-uh." Sasuke mumbles loud enough for Sakura to hear. Her eyebrow twitches at his words, and even as she tells herself to not give in, she puts her palms down on the table and retorts.
"Uh-huh." Which then leads to what happened ten years ago in Sakura's kitchen; a back and forth match of 'uh-huhs' and 'nu-uhs.' Except, as teenagers, both Sasuke and Sakura have found a better way to end their arguments.
"So, make-out session to determine who's right?" And which one offered such an option, shall never be known.
Definitely some exaggerated moments, but having experienced something similar in a relationship, I say it's not far from reality.
“If I have to eat another bowl of ramen I’ll strangle him. Honestly! It’s not that I don’t appreciate us all hanging out and getting lunch together between my shifts, but there are other restaurants than Ichiraku.” Sakura looked particularly disheartened as she and Sasuke walked back to the hospital after lunch with her former teammates. “It’s bad enough that I’ve been so busy and haven’t even been able to enjoy a home-cooked meal lately, but having the same thing over and over again for lunch just makes my other meals that much worse. Ramen is good, but not for every other meal.”
“Why haven’t you been cooking for yourself?” Sasuke knew that the woman walking next to him loved nothing more (save for himself that is) than a home cooked meal – whether by her own hands or someone else’s.
“Tsunade-shishou’s making great progress with the Hashirama cells, and I’ve been helping her out after my shifts end.” She sounded proud of herself, and rightly so, “we should be able to develop a prototype prosthetic within the next month at this rate.”
The look in her emerald eyes left Sasuke momentarily breathless, “That sounds amazing, but you shouldn’t neglect yourself in the process, the idiot and I can wait.” They were outside of the hospital now, “Tonight instead of working with Tsunade I’ll make you some onigiri.”
He’s craving for her. She’s longing for his touch.

Summary: Even the sweetest of snacks taste better at midnight.
o-o-o-o-o-o
The house was completely and utterly silent, a darkened shroud of deep stillness draped over every floorboard and television set in the Haruno household, erasing any indication of the fact that the residence held three people.
Well, one of them could still be accounted for.
Sakura gritted her teeth as she leaped across the floor boards in her kitchen, silently thanking her parents for signing her up for those ballet lessons that she’d been forced into taking since the sixth grade, though she’d finally been allowed to quit when she was a freshman. Luckily, she knew exactly which areas of the floor not to step on in order to make as minimal of noise as possible.
As she leapt to her right, she could feel her messy bun coming apart, falling from the top of her head to the nape of her neck, stray pieces of hair coming un-done indefinitely.
Sakura sighed as she took the stray pieces of rose tinted hair in-between her fingers and twisted them stubbornly. There was never a day when she could rely on her hair to behave itself, regardless of it being night or day. Hell, she couldn’t even keep her hair in a proper messy bun, let alone a neat one. And the amount of bobby pins she’d have to use didn’t soothe her rage either. Seriously, even pin after pin couldn’t hold her locks into place if the world had been resting on her head, they’d all meet their end thanks to her thin hair.
Then again, how could she blame her hair’s behavior after the activity she’d partaken in that night?
She released the loose strands, and after another small jump to the left and back, she’d finally reached her destination.
The polished wood of the pantry glistened in the dark before her hungered eyes, her famished stomach growling insistently at the snacks she knew lay beyond only a few inches of wood.
Sakura felt a small shock of satisfaction as she opened the wooden doors and her fingers instantly wrapped around a jar of peanut butter, followed by a box of cookies and a half-emptied jar of nutella.
“You’re gonna get fat if you stuff your face like that!”
Sakura glared into the jar of peanut butter before grabbing a spoon and breaking its perfectly smooth interior, the contents of the jar becoming a whirlpool of creamy goodness.
Take that, Kaa-san.
Her parents were out of town on some business trip, not that their whereabouts had really mattered to her. All that truly mattered was that she would have two whole days without her nagging mother and overly-bearing father. She could do whatever she wanted, and that included stuffing her face with sugary snacks at midnight.
Closing the pantry and hopping over another floorboard, Sakura put the food in her arms on the kitchen counter, dividing creamy spreads from the cookies.
Squinting in the dark, she fuddled with the sealed box of cookies, prying it open after only a few short attempts.
She dipped her cookie in nutella and popped it into her mouth, savoring the chocolate melting on her tongue, the tell-tale buzz of sugar entering her veins.
After all, who needs to look good in a bathing suit when you could have chocolate?
As she reached for another cookie, her body suddenly froze, a frenzied shot of chills running up and down her spine, setting her stomach and neck on fire as her hand paused halfway from the cookie box. Her eyes narrowed slyly as she felt a pair of arms wrap around her stomach,
She wasn’t the only one who knew how to navigate her kitchen floor.
“What are you doing up?” she heard his sleep drenched voice mutter in her ear, sending excited chills though out her body.
What was it about guys and their sleep-struck voices that made them so damn sexy?
“I was hungry.” she replied, daintily placing her cookie back on the kitchen counter. shifting her weight to the balls of her feet, she allowed herself to lean against her visitor, her back pressing up against his chest cozily, feeling his firm and toned muscles beneath her back.
She glanced upwards, eyes peeking out of strands of her messy bangs, staring directly into his onyx ones. “Want some?” she asked, batting her eyelashes jokingly.
He smirked down at her, a smirk that was infamous in itself, a smirk that could get him pretty far in anything he would ever want to accomplish. It was the same smirk that captured her heart, making her his, and him hers.
“You’ll get fat if you keep this up.” he said.
She glared up at him through her messy bangs, puffing out her cheeks. “Jeez, you sound like my mother, Sasuke-kun.
“And anyway, Kaa-san isn’t home, this is supposed to be a mini-vacation.”
“Who said I was speaking for your mother?” he said, slipping his hand towards her stomach, to which Sakura immediately slapped him away.
Reaching for the cookie she’d abandoned, she grinned evilly as she turned around to face her boyfriend.
Her right arm shot out and she caught his head in the crook of her elbow, bringing his lips down to her left hand, which effectively forced the cookie a quarter of the way into his mouth, the small dessert being balanced stiffly by her pinched fingers and his taut lips.
“Damn.” she said, bringing the cookie away from his lips. “I almost got you that time.”
She watched him with amusement as he did nothing to shake or lick off the crumbs that lingered on his lips, sprinkled around in a childlike manner. Of course he wouldn’t do anything about the crumbs, he was way too proud.
He glared down at her, and she only smiled back up at him, relishing at the fact that she had pissed him off to some degree.
Sakura, one. Sasuke, zero.
Rolling her eyes at him in the dark, she playfully poked him right on the bridge of his nose. Then, she extended her thumb towards his upper lip, meaning to brush the cookie crumbs away.
“Let me-” she began, only to be rudely interrupted.
He’d pushed her hand aside gently, grabbing onto it with his and curling their fingers together, squeezing her hand tightly, as if he wanted to ensure that she was real.
Was he real? Were they real?
Sakura felt a pair of lips press down onto hers, and she responded immediately, kissing him back with all the force of the stars that appeared before her closed eyelids. Using her free hand, she snaked it around the back of his neck, bringing their chests closer together, their heartbeats pounding against the other’s chest. Her fingers found their way to his hair, and she’d grabbed a handful of it by instinct.
He’d released her hand immediately, and she’d used it to trace his jawline ever so softly before reuniting it with her other hand, trying to bring his lips closer and deeper into her own, if that were even possible.
She felt fire spark from her lips, the warming rush traveling from her lips to her lower stomach, her body a heated furnace.
When they drew back from each other to breathe, Sakura couldn’t focus on anything else other than his steady yet ragged breaths. She could only focus on him, it had always been that way.
Was she even breathing?
“I don’t want to hear anything else from you about my weight tonight.” she smirked, still out of breath. “Do you hear me?”
He smirked right back at her, placing his hands on her hips, bringing her closer to his chest. She could feel their heartbeats in sync as their chests connected, lips inches away from each other’s.
His eyes were sultry, gazing down into hers like they were pools of fresh water.
“Not another word?” he’d whispered to her, feeling his breath tickle her lips.
Her eyes darted to his lips, and she felt her own begin to tingle with need. And in that moment, nothing else mattered.
“Not.” she said, leaning in closer.
“A single.” she wrapped her arms around his neck.
“Solitary.”
Their lips were centimeters from touching. “Word.”
The cookies on the kitchen counter were forgotten in an instant, abandoned for more important matters. Everything became quiet, the only evidence in the kitchen that remained of two teenagers in love were their shaking breaths and hushed whispers.
As the kitchen was soon abandoned for more comfortable arrangements, the only items left behind didn’t seem so important as they once were.
A few half eaten jars of nutella, some stray cookie crumbs, and a single, black hair-tie that once held together a pink messy bun.
