Insert Creative SSR Goals Title Here:
When considering SSR goals for MP4, I would like to focus my efforts around a newfound love and interest in one book in particular--another very long book. I have downloaded A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin.
I am starting the first book now, and even after just a couple of chapters, I am captivated and all in. Though, on one level, this is a sad turn of events, since this change means that I will not be continuing further into the world of Dante and The Divine Comedy for now. Yet, I have every intention of picking up in Dante again in college, maybe even find myself in a philosophy course and immersed in “Purgatorio” once again. All in all, I think it is a good idea to separate the sections of The Divine Comedy with some breaks in between—at least for me, it is.
In trying to learn from my experience with Dante, one goal for my SSR MP4 experience might be to guard against becoming overwhelmed or tired of A Song of Ice and Fire. While I can’t imagine that happening, especially since I have wanted to read this series for a long time now, I will keep it in mind as a goal. Yet, from what I have read so far in this new book, I am going to be perfectly fine with my newfound love.
However, given that there are five books in the series, with each book consisting of about 500 pages, it could go a few directions—sink, float, or swim. My hope is to swim through the entire series with a sort of enthrallment. If I tire, I will set a goal to accept a period of needing to float a while, perhaps continuing my love of Tolkien and moving back into The Lord of the Rings series.
Finally, I do hope to finish at least the first book, The Game of Thrones, by the end of the marking period. However, I have to also be realistic and remember it is Varsity golf season, so I cannot guarantee this accomplishment. Yet, I do have motivation: I am genuinely excited about reading this series along with the final season of Game of Thrones TV series, based on A Song of Ice and Fire series.
