You know since the cult Matt grew up in seems to keep its distance from Medical care he probably didn’t even realize he needed glasses until he was in college/nursing school. He probably only chose to wear contacts in the first place because he was more used to seeing himself without glasses and probably some sense of connection to his “home.”

Since getting closure with his ex him wearing glasses could be a way of him accepting who he is now versus who he was growing up.

Am I reading too much into this? Almost certainly, but it’s interesting to think about.

finally played the bank job and the end of ch. 4 in red dead redemption for the first time after having already read a Lot of fan commentaries & fics about it and i have some Takeaways (spoilers!)

arthur was drunk when i started the cutscene and due to some kind of glitch he was singing loudly over everyone's very serious dialogue lol

dutch is so visibly off his rocker with greed and ego by the time of the bank job that i'm really shocked he has even a small amount of support on the tumblr & ao3 side of the fandom?

at the same time i have to admit arthur does have more agency here than some people give him credit for. in the bank mission i think it's especially visible that he is very much a flawed protagonist

arthur and john both see the writing on the wall at the start of this mission, but only john speaks out about it

when they're hiding in that attic and dutch pushes charles off of the chair so that he can sit down ???? that was subtle but unironically top 10 nastiest villain moments of all time oh my fucking god

god the way dutch handles arthur pisses me off so bad though. like arthur said, he used to be the prize pony, now he's the workhorse. dutch hardly lifts a finger in half of the missions these days; most of his voice lines are just to order arthur to do unpleasant or profoundly dangerous things. i would be genuinely unsurprised if he's activley trying to get arthur killed by this point

i think dutch tests people's loyalty to him by asking them to put their necks on the line, particularly arthur. he also withholds expressions of love, or pride, then periodically dole these out almost as a reward for further demonstrations of loyalty. kind of makes me ill?

you ever think about how arthur's been with dutch since he was fourteen?

why would he choose lenny, the youngest and least experienced, and one of arthur's favorites to boot, to cross the roof with him?

you ever notice how arthur's way of mentoring lenny, who he seems to think of as a little brother or a surrogate son, is to encourage lenny to put himself in danger and then validate & praise him afterwards? with the raiding of shady belle and again with that second bank robbery it felt like arthur saw himself in lenny and wanted to cultivate it the way that it was once "cultivated" in him..

it's almost like arthur was raised by a manipulative gang leader who mentored him by grooming him to be a gang enforcer, and now arthur, having never recognized his own grooming for what it was, doesn't even realize he's repeating old patterns.

unlike dutch, though, i have no doubt arthur would've taken that bullet for lenny if he'd gotten the chance.

charles's 'self sacrifice' of distracting the lawmen guarding the boat feels more like he also saw the writing on the wall and said fuck it, i'm gonna run this way, you crazy motherfuckers run that way lmao
