I'm kind of new to this, but this one's to my girl Saint Hedwig! Not only a very kind monarch who took care of her subjects, for example by funding and supporting hospitals, and was commonly loved, but also a great politician and diplomat - her sensible approach to the Teutonic Knights and succesful attempts to get her husband and his cousin to reconcile greatly contributed to the victory at Grunwald/Tannenberg in 1410, and she led a war campaign at the age of fourteen (of course the main strategical decisions were made by her advisors, but that's still a lot for a fourteen-year-old). She was an avid book reader (it is known that she read Bridget of Sweden's Revelationes coelestes, for example), surrounded herself with scholars and supported culture and education: ordered the first Polish translation of the Psalms (it's written in three languages and survived to this day, though I'm not sure if it's the original version or a copy), as well as donated her jewellery for the renovation of the university in Kraków. Also, for a bit of trivia, she liked music, sweet cakes and beer (seriously, what is it with saints and beer? First Brigid, now her). I just think she's neat, please give her your love and votes, fellow tumblrinas in Christ.
