I made a pilgrimage today
St. Rat (for St. Rat of Cal Anderson Park)
from small places, they come
through any opening
no matter how small
a miracle of fur and muscle
dearest unbeloved
appearing everywhere we walk
a plague and a promise
we will not end
a world without us has never existed
and never will
endure, endure
these are days for enduring
for hiding, contorting
writhing, biting
fleeing sinking ships
St. Rat teaches all survival means
holy crumb in hand
we’ll live on crumbs
if we must
but beyond these times
are lush lands
I love Seattleites
