"Stability is not stagnation. It has to remain flowing like the river water constantly." -Geeta Iyengar. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This quote came to me when studying with @carrieowerko at @wanderlusthlwd earlier this month. It's such a great way to redefine stability and reframe how one approaches creating stability in practice. Life requires us to move, and continually adjust the rates of our movements. I learned from Carrie that getting stronger doesn't always make you tighter. Many of us approach yoga for flexibility and mobility. The way I've learned from Carrie is the synthesis of these two produces stability-- Having control over ranges of motion, being able to generate force within those ranges of motion and especially active ranges of motion. Stability is not rigidity. Stability is being dynamic! I highly recommend you to follow her and find the time to study with her. It's the most illuminating experience every time, and always refreshing like the river water constantly flowing 😉 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This Eka Pada Bakasana setup with the chair I learned from Carrie a couple of years at Julie Lawrence Yoga center (now called Jewel Yoga) in Portland, Oregon. It's a great way to build wrist strength, find shoulder girdle stability, engage core muscles, and gain awareness for moving the legs with control. Doing the prep for such a pose is harder in many ways then just getting into the pose itself and figuring out your balance in any which way. Throwing yourself into an arm balance is one way to experience the balance, and moving through stability is a whole another way.
