There are people in this world who approach all communication as a form of intellectual combat which is "won" by deliberately providing the most obstructive and least informative possible answer which technically satisfies the precise letter of the stated request, and literally all of them are on Stack Overflow.
Everyone should immediately stop contributing to the stack overflow and its network. The human touch is what made it unique. Delete your profile from SO AND all your answers. Freeloaders are making money out of human contributions.
You tagged Neocities in your RD post. Is this legit?! :0000c
I would love to see a website for your OCs! There are so many cool ones out there. You don't have to make it purely RD either (in case you focus on other series)! It's super fun!! I highly recommend it!!!
Just in case you do want to make a site and need tutorials, I suggest:
W3Schools
Stack Overflow
YouTube
Mozilla Developer Network (the MDN)
Lots of Neocities cites have credits and resources pages
Tumblr! We have a Neocities community over here :]
I'd be happy to provide some advice too, but I'm not a professional webdev. Still, I'd love to see you join!! :D
Yeah!!! It'd be a separate Record Deal website with like. A Danny-made RHL page or something
Also I didn't expect you to add resources!!
I've made a few HTML websites before but they are not great so a tutorial would do me well... although I did use W3Schools when I was starting lol.
(Speaking of which I probably should repurpose my old account for a website with all my OCs...)
Anyways I'll definitely look for those! Thank you for the ask :)
AI Has Basically Killed Stack Overflow
"People were just happy to finally have a tool that didn't tell them their questions were stupid."
What a fucking headline.
The advent of generative AI appears to have caused an extinction-level event for crowdsourced question-and-answer platform Stack Overflow.
The lede should alert you to a lot of bad shit entirely unrelated to AI, pretty much like in several other cases, and the article expands upon it - maybe stating the obvious, but also highlighting how deep up their asses some people keep their heads:
Disillusioned users argued that the site’s often hostile and “toxic” community has contributed to its decline as well, criticizing the company for allowing moderators to mishandle duplicate queries, for instance. Many users have grown frustrated with being shut down for asking already-answered questions.
Of course, one could point to 2022 and say ‘look, it’s because of AI,’ and yes, AI certainly accelerated the decline, but this is the result of consistently punishing users for trying to participate in your community
I have a saying for situations like this, when some petty shithead goes on a power trip, because he's the moderator, parking cop or some other figure of minor and negligible authority:
"Give a boor a little bit of power, and he's gonna crown himself emperor."
LLMs are tuned to be agreeable and helpful, something that actual people these days are sorely lacking. And toxic communities online like this run for so long that their toxicity has long ago became a running joke. Like, memes about a local electronics and programming bulletin board being like that date back over a fucking decade. Over a fucking decade of people being assholes online without consequences. If you're surprised that someone prefers talking to a machine in such a scenario, there's something deeply fucking wrong with your head.
The cases of AI unwittingly spewing back the worst dregs of 2010 Reddit toxicity at mentally vulnerable people because somehow that's the most statistically common response to mental health questions in the data models ironically tie into this, as does the wave of anti-AI psychosis among fanatics believing the AI sales pitch filtered through soiled diapers of self-proclaimed doom prophets as religious dogma while displaying shocking ignorance of any factual weaknesses and flaws of the technology.
It's like every scenario out there that increases the popularity and usage of AI comes directly from someone being some kind of asshole for at least a decade. At least two kinds of assholes preying on tasteless rubes (media producers funding nothing but dumbed down focus group-approved garbage and talentless hacks flogging derivative if not outright plagiarized dogshit to tasteless rubes for lunch money), toxic assholes on power trips, ignorant assholes spouting long-debunked nonsense as holy writ, garden variety trolls and other failures of humanity.
The supposed solution without a problem arrived at multiple different fields of problems that people were too smug to notice. And despite being pretty shitty at every of them in practice, it at least consistently feigns politeness and understanding.
