“Staff Weapon”

Culture: Italian

Date: 15th Century

Length:  94 1/8 inches total, with a 20 1/2 inch head.

Weight:  7 lb. 2 oz.

Info: The museum has labeled this as a “staff weapon”, which is not incorrect--it is a polearm, a weapon on the end of a staff--but if I were in charge of labeling it, I would definitely call it a halberd(or the Italian language equivalent--perhaps they don’t have an equivalent word, and that’s why this is “staff weapon). It has all the characteristics of a halberd--a broad blade, a long spike, and a hook--but in a different style than I’ve usually seen. 

Halberds are most commonly associated with the Swiss, but, as can be seen here, other European cultures had weapons which were conceptually the same.

This example is on the long and heavy side of halberds, weighing over 7 pounds. That is relatively heavy for any Medieval weapon.

I tried to be as accurate to the movie and I added lots of textures to make it seem less of a boring simple art piece. Texture for all!
