If the nuke had sent Dream and Punz to limbo, Dream would’ve become so possessive and protective it’s not even funny. Dream has lost everything by this point, and now there’s literally no way for him to get it back. There’s zero hope. Everyone left (because of him) and everything’s gone. He’s a worthless mortal. It’s all been destroyed. He’ll never get back the life he once dreamed of having, the one he sacrificed everything for. (The one he did so many horrible things to try and save.)

But you know what’s not gone, despite everything? Punz. Like a stubborn dandelion, Punz is still fucking there, somehow. Now they’re the only thing Dream has left. It’s tiny compared to what he’s lost, but it’s something.

So if Punz ever tried to leave (or if, god forbid, someone tried to take them away) Dream would flip. out. Because he no longer cares about attachment or things being used against him or the pain of being abandoned. There’s no point anymore. Punz is not going anywhere, not when Dream can still do something to keep them. Not when Dream has literally nothing else to lose.
