Beyonce used her light skin privilege and celebrity to uplift and center dark skin black women. She didn’t say all skin complexions are beautiful because we live in a society that values skin complexions that are closer to whiteness. She specifically focused on the most devalued complexion in our society and globally. A lot of of people are shook that one of the most revered light skin women in our society and globe would dare to give a halo to the forgotten and downtrodden.
“Your skin is not only dark, it shines and it tells your story”- Beyonce
Beyonce is clearly stating the magnificence that exists in dark skin because of the connection it has to our collective history. We can also look at colorism as a form of amnesia and that dark skin represents is a reminder of our history and the African Diaspora. Beyonce has made it clear our stories and history matter.
(Some people become illiterate when you challenge their colorism and it’s astounding.)
!!!! THERE IT IS !!!!
Not to be all GET OFF MY LAWN and reveal my actual age but SOME OF Y'ALL DO NOT HAVE ANY IDEA WHOMST THE FUCK STAN IS.
And I'm just deadass sick of seeing it used as a verb. Like. *Oh I really like Katy Perry I STAN FOREVER.* Like fuck off. Oh you gonna throw your pregnant girlfriend in the trunk and drive off a bridge because California Girls made you feel seen and understood but then Katy didn't speak to you after her show once?
No. I wont shut up about this. STAN absolutely rocked my teenage brain and gave me nightmares as a young person who was too young to be listening to Eminem but secretly listened to him at friends' houses because my mother would never allow it under her roof. Stan is TOXIC FANDOM.
Stan is not oh, this person in this news story did something awesome to combat some jerk so ~wE hAvE dEcIdEd To sTaN fOrEvEr~ FUCK. OFF.
STAN is about the evils and grim reality of TOXIC FANDOM so 10 year old girls talking about they stan ... idk... fkn... Evie from Disney's The Descendents can F U C K O F F.
So I was doing a rewatch of Season 5 because I just love it and why not. And I realized something. Preface this by saying I am not condoning anything that Octavia did or Wonkru did in her name. I think I understand it a little better tho.
They showed the fighting pits happening like all the time and gave the impression that they happened everyday. But I was doing the math. 1200 people start out in the bunker. 814 in the end. That’s a loss of 386 people. That seems like a lot. And it is. And I stand by my belief that if Lexa or Clarke were in that bunker maybe nobody would have died.
But they were in that bunker for 6 years give or take a few weeks. So (rounding) that’s about 65 people dying a year, which is about 5 people a month. That averages to about once a week. But we saw in the first fight with Cooper and the last with Kane that there have been fights with at least 4 or 5 people. So I think it’s safe to say the pit fights averaged once or twice a month. But the show made it seem like that’s all they were doing.
Can you imagine once or twice a month. Think of all the other things they were doing. Think of how many days of peace they had, especially before the dark year. Think of how easy it would be to justify one or two pit fights every once in awhile for the greater good of everyone in the bunker, as far as she was concerned, the last of humanity. Just like how they floated people on the Ark. and I think that’s important cause if you compare the bunker and the Ark they are not so different.
Octavia kept the last of humanity alive. Not only did she create Wonkru, uniting 12 clans, but she kept them alive and for the most part achieved a peaceful living, with the least amount of loss she could afford.
No wonder they would do anything for Blodreina. No wonder it took Kane 6 years to realize they were too far gone as a people. Because it was working.
