IN WHICH! Jihoon has a little secret: he's pretty much smitten with the girl he sees every day at the bus.
GENRE! drabble, non-idol!jihoon x fem!reader. Jihoon’s pov.
WARNING(S)! Jihoon is kinda obssesed with reader but in a cute way. Mention to Juan Ramón Jiménez (spanish poet). Clumsy Jihoonie and oblivious reader. not proofread.

There’s this girl.
She smiles with her mouth closed, as if she were hiding secrets inside. She nods, shakes her head, hums softly to the songs she hears. So far, Jihoon had only managed to guess one: Iris by The Goo Goo Dogs. And, he had to admit, that song suited her perfectly.
He sees her every time he comes back from school. She always sits down a couple of seats ahead of him. She wears the uniform of a school he can't recognize, and with it she wears her wired headphones, which Jihoon has seen her with so many times that he even wondered if they were part of her.
Her eyes sparkled every time a song she loved started playing—which was all the time (or at least that was the conclusion he had come to). She was always smiling, although unlike Jihoon himself, she did so in a more shy, quiet way. In fact, there were times when her smile could go so unnoticed that other people were unable to realize that it lit up her face so brightly. Although he would always notice, of course.
When he got on the bus, she was always already there. Sometimes he would find her looking out the window, or reading a book, or other times, though it happened less often, closing her eyes with the intention of disconnecting for a moment. She never answered her phone, and perhaps that is why she seemed to be in limbo between reality and fiction. Between the past and the present.
At this time of year, when sunset began later than usual, the warm sunlight enveloped the entire bus. And among all the things it makes more beautiful, it illuminated her. So, when the orange hue reflected directly on her face, Jihoon could easily appreciate the contrasts. Her rounded lips and long eyelashes, or her hazel eyes turning honey-colored in the light.
Could there be another word to describe that image other than beautiful? Maybe yes. Maybe no. Perhaps, there might not be a word that even remotely resembled the tingling sensation the boy felt when he saw her.
Perhaps, it could be because nothing had captivated him more in recent days than her almond-shaped eyes, full of secrets that Jihoon would give anything to discover.
She didn't know. Or if she suspected, she hid it very well, because she had never said anything to him, nor had she even looked directly at him. Even if there wasn't a day that went by when he didn't get lost in her beautiful hair or imagine an entire fictional life with her.
On that particular day, the bus was full, as it usually was on Wednesdays. Jihoon got on the vehicle, swiping his card, which emitted a soft 'beep', as usual. Everything was normal, part of everyday life. What wasn't normal, however, was that when he looked at the girl's usual seat, she wasn't there. She was gone. Maybe that was the reason for his momentary bad mood, his great disappointment at not being able to see her again.
Perhaps he had become so accustomed to admiring her during the journey that he wondered if he could even survive the trip without her. (And maybe he was just being overly dramatic). He walked with his eyes on the ground, clicking his teeth. No luck that day, then.
He couldn't sit down either, because the bus was so full there was hardly any space left for him. With the orange sun on his face and a frown on his brow, he managed to squeeze his way between some passengers until he reached the window seat in the disabled area, which was free.
However, he didn't count on tripping over his own feet and accidentally bumping into the girl in front of him, knocking the book she had been reading to the floor. He bent down to pick it up, surprised and embarrassed at the same time by his clumsiness. He muttered a quick “sorry” without even looking at the girl he had collided with.
Diary of a Newlywed Poet, he read in the title. She was reading a classic, it seemed. Curiously, his girl from the bus also liked foreign classics quite a bit. Jihoon sighed, the book in his hands. Why did everything remind him of her?
He got on slowly, and as if he were in one of those dramas they show on television, everything seemed to go into slow motion when he saw her face.
The orange light against her skin, those bright, almond-shaped eyes, and that well-groomed yet slightly tousled hair she always wore.
The hairstyle she always wore.
It was her. He had bumped into his bus girl.
Oh my God, he thought.
His mouth opened slightly without him realizing, and the book would have slipped from his hand if she hadn't caught it before that happened.
“Thank you,” she said, in a soft, velvety, wonderful voice. One he would have wanted to bottle from the first second and then drink from until he was drunk.
Okay, now maybe he was just being too corny.
He didn't respond at all. He couldn't. The only thing that came out of his mouth was a soft, strangled murmur. Something he had wanted to say for too long. Ever since he had begun to realize she was there. That she existed. Ever since she had become his strange secret, one he treasured too much to miss the opportunity. So he cleared his through and said:

The moon was high, just like the night you first met, quite some time ago now. You remember seeing Hanjin for the first time in that convenience store where he used to work. You were completely mesmerized at the sight of him. The store had been empty, and although you didn't usually stop to talk to handsome guys, you decided to do it this time. He helped you along, with his reassuring smile and calm expression. He looked like a little bunny. Even though he had an accent and had a little trouble connecting words, you were captivated by the way he spoke, the way he listened to you, and the way he smiled.
You talked for what seemed like hours, and then, when you had to leave for home, the first thing you wanted to do was look him up on the internet, only to realize that he had never actually told you his name. And you hadn't told him yours either.
How strange was it that the nameless guy from the convenience store ended up feeling like the love of your life. The person you went to sleep with and woke up with the next morning.
The sound of the door opening brought you back to reality, somewhat reluctantly. However, that bad feeling quickly disappeared, as the person who had just arrived was none other than Hanjin. A smile spread across your face and you got up from the sofa.
You had different schedules; you worked early and Hanjin started work a little before noon, which meant you didn't see each other much during the week. So, whenever you could, you stayed up waiting for him, watching some silly movie on TV, or he woke up a little earlier, just to hug you in the sunlight.
Hanjin put his work bag on the floor and, with a sigh, fell into your arms, resting his forehead against your shoulder.
“Hey.” You greeted him almost in a whisper, even though it was just the two of you in that little apartment. “Long day, huh?”
He sighed. “You can say that.....I'm exhausted,” he murmured, giving you a gentle hug while continuing to rest his head on your shoulder. You laughed softly.
You stayed like that for a while, exhausted beyond belief while you played with his well-groomed hair, humming a soft song.
Hanjin sighed again, lifting his head this time, with a soft smile. Then, you looked into each other's eyes and for some reason, a silly laugh began to fill the room.
You laughed nonstop for a while for no particular reason, because laughing was free and felt better than anything else. Hanjin intertwined his fingers with yours, and when the hysteria passed, he began to kiss them one by one under your smiling gaze.
Then, you were the one who leaned in and gave him the first kiss. It was soft and tasted like welcome.
“Kiss you once 'cause I know you had a long day,” you mumbled, smiling. He snorted.
He kissed you again, being the one who started it this time. The second kiss tasted like love, like comfort.
“Kiss you twice 'cause I know you waited for your whole life.” You teased when you broke up.
“Kiss you three times 'cause it's going to be alright...” He muttered, his thumb caressing your hand.
Gosh, Hanjin was so cute. And just for that, you gave him another one. Because you had missed him, even if you hadn't seen him for just a few hours.
Hanjin laughed again, tightening his grip on your hand. And suddenly, something crossed his mind. As if he had forgotten something.
“Oh, I have something for you,” he said, moving away from you for a moment.
He sat down on the sofa and picked up the bag he always took to work. He rummaged around a bit while you sat down next to him, tilting your head slightly.
Then, from the small brown bag, he took out a small paper ring. Hanjin smiled, holding it out to you.
“Here.” He handed it to you. “It's for you. I made it when I thought of you at work.”
You held it in your hands with amazement. It was just a piece of paper with a little glitter on it, but you could tell that Hanjin had put a lot of care into the whole process. You could tell he loved you, just from the gesture.
“Thank you. It's beautiful,” you said, smiling. He scratched the back of his neck, not quite convinced.
“I don't know. But I thought it was pretty. I know you like shiny things.”
Your smile widened, and you gave him a hug that ended up with him lying down on the sofa while laughing like little kids, kissing every part of Hanjin's face.
You did indeed like shiny things, but you would marry him with paper rings.

It was a summer afternoon, the sun was beginning to set, having already passed its zenith. You had arranged to meet Jihoon then. You had put on a pretty white dress with ruffles that you had borrowed from your mother because it suited you perfectly (or at least that's what you thought, which was the most important thing). You loved that dress and it gave you a certain confidence in what you were doing, which was perhaps why you had worn it.
When you arrived at the bench where you had agreed to meet, he was already there. You suspected he was wearing his favorite sweater (just because of how worn it looked and how well it fit him) along with jeans; plus what you recognized as his legendary lucky socks with the rainbow jellyfish print. Jihoon smiled from ear to ear when he saw you arrive. His hair was messy, probably from touching it repeatedly as he did when he was nervous.
“Yn!” He greeted you smiling, getting up from where he was sitting.
“Hi.” You waved.
You talked smoothly for a while, walked through the streets like the two teenagers you were, and talked about whatever came to mind. It was fun to hang out with Jihoon because he always made you laugh with his random dances and dad jokes. Plus, he had a strange urge to tease you all the time, which, by the way, was mutual.
What you didn't expect was that, on that date (because it was a date, right?), it would start to rain. At first it was just a few drops here and there, until it eventually turned into a huge storm.
“It's raining!” you exclaimed, stating the obvious. “Shoot, we're going to get soaked! Gosh, my mom is going to kill me, she told me to take good care of the dress...”
Jihoon looked at you and, laughing for no particular reason, grabbed your hand. He didn't do it in a particularly romantic way. He didn't intertwine his fingers with yours, he just grabbed your wrist and started running, dragging you along, to take shelter from the rain. Needless to say, you had no choice but to follow him.
“Jihoon!” you complained, holding onto your dress so you wouldn't trip with your free hand. “Jihoon, you're going too fast!” she complained, even though she was laughing out loud.
He turned his head, his hair even more disheveled and his eyes even brighter. Water droplets left a trail on his sweater, which was starting to get soaked, and you suspected the same was happening to your dress.
“Come on! We don't want you crying later because you're soaked.” He teased. If you weren't so worried about getting wet and if he weren't Han Jihoon, you probably would have slapped him by now.
And yet, you didn't know how it could get better than that.
Amid laughter and more shouting, you took refuge under a cornice large enough for both of you, but small enough that you had to squeeze together. One against the other. It was still raining heavily, and the streets were already flooded with water that kept falling and falling.
Once you were sure that no water would fall on you, you nudged Jihoon. “You're so clumsy!” you complained, even though you couldn't help smiling.
“Ouch!” he m, rubbing his arm. “Look who's talking!” he said back, even though he was in the same situation. A growing smile adorned his face, a smile that kept growing.
There was silence for a moment, something that didn't usually happen between them. At that moment, Jihoon had time to take in everything he could about you. Your wet dress, your bright eyes, your goose bumps from the cold, your messy hair, slightly frizzy from running in the rain... And maybe it was just him, and the fact that he liked you a lot, but to him you were as beautiful as anyone could be at that moment. God, how he wanted to ask you to dance right then and there, in the middle of the rain.
As you tried to fix your hair a little so you didn't look like you'd just come out of the washing machine, you caught him looking at you with that silly look and dumb smile.
“What?” you asked him. You were pretty close. So close that your arms were almost touching.
“How can you look so good like this?” he asked, although you couldn't quite tell if it bothered him or if, on the contrary, he liked it.
You frowned. “Like what?”
He ran his hand through his hair again. Damn, did he know how crazy that particular gesture made you?
“Soaked,” Jihoon replied, although you could tell from his face that he wasn't joking this time. He really meant it.
A blush spread across your cheeks. “Ah.” You nodded without looking at his face, feeling self-conscious. “Thanks, I guess.”
The rain slowed down for a moment, and that was when he chose to ask you what had been on his mind for a while.
“Yn, would you dance with me?” he asked, holding out his hand.
You stared at him for a moment, bewildered. The sound of the rain was the only thing making any kind of melody at that moment. “We don't even have music,” you said, letting your hand fall into his.
But he smiled, his signature Jihoon smile, with all his passion and joy in his body. He gently took your hand, now intertwining your fingers with his.
“Why does it matter?” he said, pulling you out from under the cornice, into the rain. “We can make it up.”
A smile appeared on your lips and there, in the rain, you ended up dancing one of those many waltzes that Jihoon had bothered to learn just to dance with you.
The rain wouldn't let up until much later. But you didn't care. Not anymore.
You didn’t know exactly why, but with him you’d dance in a storm with your best dress, fearless.

You were both on a train back to the city where you lived after a short getaway to another place. It had been Kyungmin's idea to get away from the hustle and bustle for a while, now that you had both finished the tough college entrance exam and, let's be honest, with all the stress you had been under, you deserved it. You knew that if it had been up to him, you would have rented a car and gone wherever the road took you (or whatever his mother would have called “hippie stuff”), but neither of you had a driver's license yet, so you had to settle for the train.
Its large windows offered glimpses of the beautiful mountain landscape, bathed in sunlight that filtered carefully, as if asking permission, through the half-closed mustard-colored curtains. Kyungmin's head was resting on your shoulder, and he was half asleep. He had moved around so much that day that he had gotten tired very quickly, and this was the end result of all that jumping around. Really, he loved to use up all his energy and then take a nap.
And if Kyungmin had been in your mind, he probably would have agreed with you, because there was no better time of day than when he could rest beside you. Sometimes you wished he would be a little calmer, but at the end of the day you knew that was just how he was—and you loved him completely, not just in parts.
You were sharing headphones, listening to a song you had recently grown fond of. What's more, when Kyungmin heard it for the first time, he decided it was going to be his new favorite song. So those three minutes were probably what you listened to most during the whole trip. Billy Joel's soft, husky voice was always there, accompanied by the soft, dreamy instrumental.
That afternoon you were... pensive, with a lot on your mind. The most predominant thought, perhaps, was how Kyungmin had slowly become one of your favorite people, someone who would stay with you even if everything went wrong, even if you screwed up 7942 times. He had slipped into your life with that overflowing energy and a dangerous smile that made anyone who saw it fall head over heels for it. It was... curious. You didn't think he would ever leave your life, but nothing was forever and you were afraid of forgetting . Forgetting him, forgetting his laughter, his caresses, his words... You didn't want that. Not for anything in the world.
The murmur of the song in your ear and the sight of your boyfriend sleeping made you reflect; perhaps you needed... a song. But what song would be as perfect as that moment? You didn't know. You certainly had no idea. And even though Kyungmin was half asleep (almost drooling on your shoulder unconsciously), his instincts never failed him. He knew something was weird with you just by glancing at you.
“Yn, is something wrong?” he asked, stretching out the letters a little due to fatigue. You looked at him and what you saw only made you feel tender, almost forgetting your fears... Gosh, your boyfriend was so cute.
“Nothing, I was just thinking how we don't have a song,” you replied with a smirk.
“A song...?” he asked, a sleepy smile appearing on his lips. “But we already have one, silly.”
You raised an eyebrow, not knowing if he was just saying that or if you really did have one and you hadn't realized it yet. “Oh, really?” you asked.
He smiled. “Of course,” he replied. “Our song is the sound of seagulls, or the nudges you give me in class so I don't fall asleep, or like when we're on the phone and I talk really slow, because it's late and my momma doesn't know.”
You laughed, remembering how Kyungmin always insisted on calling you super late when you had just finished studying and ended up fearing even his own shadow. “Ah, you mean that . I think you're too sleepy, Kyungma.” You teased him a little.
“What are you talking about...” he complained, although one eye began to slowly close. “It doesn't need to be elaborate to be the best song. It's special because it's only ours.”
That threw you off a little because no one had ever said anything like that to you before. It was... nice , as a lack of a better word, to feel so appreciated by someone, you supposed. He didn't usually say many profound things, not because he didn't know how, but because the opportunity never arose. However, Kyungmin had a bad habit of saying his most intimate thoughts when he was about to fall asleep. And that was when you couldn't ask him anything anymore.
“I guess you're right. It's our song after all,” you replied with a smile. You looked at the boy, his hair tousled and his eyes already closed, who leaned on your shoulder, pulling his legs up and curling up against your arm. Anyone would have said he looked more like a koala than a human.
In truth, you deeply loved Kyungmin. Too much for your own good. So much so that after he said that, you couldn't help thinking that all the other songs in the world weren't as good as the one you had with Kyungmin. The one that symbolized the hugs in the hardest moments and the tears shed in the happiest (and also the most complicated) moments. That song that carried each and every one of your whispered words to each other in the background.
None of them were as special either.
Maybe that's why, on impulse, while trying not to wake Kyungmin, who was already fast asleep, you grabbed a napkin and wrote down your song.
The words flowed like pieces of a puzzle that fit together perfectly. Before, it had been difficult for you to write a song, but you had finished this one in just three hours.
Your gaze drifted to Kyungmin, who was still fast asleep on your shoulder. A soft blush appeared on your face. Okay, you hadn't thought about it until that moment (or maybe you had, who knows), but god, he was cute. With his half-orange hair from the dye tousled, his most worn-out sweatshirt from the back of his closet because he didn't have any others, had also become wrinkled. His lips were slightly parted and his chest rose and fell periodically. And just from that sight, you felt your heart was going to burst out of your chest.
